Author's Note:

This is a tiny little one-shot that I wrote yesterday. Silverskyfall requested it, so I wrote it up. It's not very well written, I'm sorry, because I have a sort of writer's block at the moment... Anyway. Hope it's passable.

They've been trying to figure out how to stop the Delta Wave that the Daleks created. The Doctor knows that there isn't much hope.

"The Delta Wave's started building. How long does it need?" He yells frantically.

He and Rose run over to one of the many consoles in the blue-white lit control room.
"Is that bad? Okay, it's bad. How bad is it?" She asks.

This is his last chance. He loves Rose more than anything else in the universe. Which is why he has to do this. He can't make her stay, but he also hates to make her leave.

What could possibly hurt more than my Rose getting hurt?

The possibility of her dying is just too much.

Rose, please forgive me.

This is what he has to do. The Doctor takes a deep breath and puts on a mask of excitement and hope. I hope she knows this is for her protection.

"Rose Tyler, you're a genius! We can do it if I use the TARDIS to cross my old timeline! Yes!"

They run towards the TARDIS and the Doctor ushers Rose inside.

"Hold that down and keep position." It kills him to say those words.

"What's it do?" Rose asks. Think of something! It has to be believable. (How can it be believable if even I can't believe it?)

"Cancels the buffers," The Doctor lies. "If I'm very clever and I'm more than clever, I'm brilliant; I might just save the world. Or rip it apart."

"I'd go for the first one," Rose says with a small, oblivious, innocent smile.

"Me too," I would, I really would. But I don't think I can, not for me, only for you. "Now, I've just got to go and power up the Game Station. Hold on!"

The Doctor runs out and stops in the midst of the jumble of cables. He looks back at the TARDIS. Doctor, what the hell are you doing?

I just need to keep her safe.

Then, using all of his strength, his eyes dark with sorrow and regret, the Doctor points the sonic screwdriver at it. The engines start whirring, powering up and preparing to leave.

"Doctor, what're you doing?" I have to do this for you, Rose. I'm so sorry. "Can I take my hand off? It's moving." Come back. (But she can't!)

Rose runs to the door, pounding on it desperately. "Doctor, let me out! Let me out! Doctor, what've you done?"

I wish I could, Rose. I had to do it! I had to!

Rose wails, and the Doctor turns away, unable to stand the sound of her terrified, betrayed voice. He wishes that there had been another way to save her, his beautiful, clever Rose, but he doesn't want to risk her precious life. She would be safe, and that is all he really cares about.

End note:

I actually got the transcript off of a DW site, if you're interested. They've got a bunch of DW scripts and stuff.
