My Last Breath

Ivan frowned, stopping for a moment to look around, he continued through the blistering storm. Snow swirling around him, he wasn't even sure what he was looking for. Or rather, who. He'd only seen the girl in a dream, he wasn't really sure if he was looking for a real person.

Her small pale face, long, dark brown hair, the color of the center of a sun flower. Dark, amethyst eyes. She was small, frail. But she said she'd loved him, she wasn't afraid of him. He was happy with those words, if only they were a dream, he would have dreamed forever. But it was when she asked, if he could hear her words, if he could feel her touch. He couldn't answer. He couldn't feel her at all. It was then, he'd always wake from his dream, arising from bed into the rest of a long, sleepless night.

hold on to me love
you know i can't stay long
all i wanted to say was, "I love you and I'm not afraid"
can you hear me?
can you feel me in your arms?

He wanted to find her. He was determined if it ended him there, But it wouldn't. He knew that. As a country, he was used to the cold, though, he knew if she were real, she would not be. And there she was.

He found the small girl, huddled in one of the hallow trees deep withing the forest. Her knees pulled close to her body, her head resting on them gingerly. Long, chocolate brown hair fell in her face. Her eyes were closed, she breathed softly. Her shoulders rising and falling carefully.

i'll miss the winter
a world of fragile things
look for me in the white forest
hiding in a hollow tree (come find me)
i know you hear me
i can taste it in your tears

Ivan closed his eyes only for a moment, but when he opened them again he was back in his large mansion in Moscow. Standing from the long sofa he'd found himself sleeping on, he quickly, though calmly, searched the house. Careful not to alert anyone else of his change in behavior. She was no where to be found. The girl was gone. He'd only been dreaming, again. He scratched his head, a disappointed frown crossing his face, but he said nothing.

Closing your eyes to disappear,
You pray your dreams will leave you here;
But still you wake and know the truth,
No one is there...

The day proceeded on, but only thoughts of the small, fragile girl, resided in his mind. Ivan couldn't think straight and through out the meeting, he said nothing. The other nation's a little disturbed by his silence, proceeded nervously with out him. As if something were missing, he couldn't get it out. Thoughts only kept flooding though, allowing nothing else to have his focus.

(Say goodnight) Holding my last breath
(Don't be afraid) Safe inside myself
(Calling me, calling me) Are all my thoughts of you?
Sweet raptured life, it ends here tonight

That night he was expecting it. As Ivan closed his eyes, he prayed for his dream to return. Hoping to see the girl once again. Maybe it would be his last time. And maybe, it would get her from his mind. And so he faded into sleep, her name in his thoughts as the darkness took over his mind.

Say goodnight,
Don't be afraid,
Calling me, Calling me as you fade to black.
