The Road I'm On
"R-Rebecca?" Toris questioned sheepishly as he knocked and opened the bedroom door slowly. Rebecca turned to him from the window and gave a sweet, welcoming smile.
"Come in Toris, What's up?" she greeted, turning back out to the window. Toris walked in carefully and closed the door behind him.
"Actually, I just kinda wanted to talk," He admitted thoughtfully, "I mean, if you want to." He added quickly, embarrassed.
Rebecca giggled, "No, it's alright. What did you want to talk about?" He shrugged, a small smile crossing his lips as he watched her.
"You really like the stars, don't you?" he questioned, noticing the look on her face as she peered out the window at the night sky. She nodded.
"I love them," She whispered, "especially in the dark night when they show the best. On a moonless night." Toris nodded, watching her carefully. She was different. She was small, seemingly weak, almost child like. Though he knew she couldn't be much younger than himself. He couldn't help but wonder.
"If you don't mind me asking," He started slowly, carefully watching her actions, "How did you end up here?" he asked, referring to the fact that they were both under Russian control.
Rebecca let out a long sigh, though her smile never left, "I really don't remember." She stated truthfully, "I guess, I just don't like thinking about it."
She said life's a lot to think about sometimes
When you're living in between the lines
And all the stars they sparkle and shine everyday
Rebecca gave a small apologetic smile after Toris had explained his situation. She'd asked him the same question he'd asked her. "I guess your friend wasn't a great friend, huh?" she said quietly.
He shook his head, "No, but I guess it doesn't matter now. Where here." Rebecca placed a hand on his shoulder and smiled brightly.
"Don't worry about it, you have friends here. I mean, Estonia and Latvia are your friends, right? And I don't think I'm going anywhere any time soon." She giggled, making him smile.
"Yea, I guess. I just wish we could get outta here, you know?" he added softly.
He said life's a lot to think about sometimes
When you keep it all between the lines
Of everything I want and I want to find, one of these days
Rebecca was new to Ivan's control, only having been taken weeks before. Night after night, Toris would find himself either talking to her, or comforting her at night. Her tears of oppression, and fear, tugging at his heart. He knew how she felt, he remembered all to well, he'd only gotten used to it. Though Ivan was still constantly pushing, pressing, harder and harder.
That night, Toris sat on her floor, wrapping her hands with the bandages as she watched quietly. She didn't cry this time, though he expected she would. He wanted to ask her why, but he thought it best to himself he not. Instead, he placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder and gave a weak smile. She looked up at him, giving a small smile back, though it didn't reach her eyes. Instead, he found only a lost sadness. A longing to be home. He knew, and he wanted nothing more than the same. Freedom.
I know you feel helpless now and I know you feel alone
That's the same road, that same road that I am on
