~Lords of the Sea~
"You'll be safe while I'm gone, right Beka?" Francis asked worriedly. His ship was prepared to set sail yet again. I knew he would be gone for months, leaving me alone on our island with the animals and treasures. I had gotten use to the loneliness over the years but Francis still worried about me. After what happened four years ago I couldn't blame him . . .but hiding me away on an island should have calmed his fears.
"How many times do you have to ask that frère ? I can take care of myself now, I promise."
My golden red wavy hair was braided and ended in the middle of my back. My skin was tan from living at the beach, and my eyes were a deep brown. I was currently wearing a blue button down shirt, leather black pants, and black boots with a heel. On my waist was a purple sash that held the double katanas that I carried everywhere. They were mostly plain, the handle was black with a ruby on the end of each, the scabbards were black with three gems on each side. I had a pirate hat with a blue feather on my head.
Francis looked around, after a pause he looked back at me, "I can leave a couple of my men here if you like."
"And have them making me cook and clean for them? No thank you. Plus they might end up raping me. They are pirates after all." I said smiling as he snorted.
"I'm a pirate and I never rape women!" he said indignantly.
"That's because all the women throw themselves at you." I laughed lightly as he smiled. It was true, he was very handsome. His blond hair hung past his chin, it was messy but in a stylish way. His eyes were bright blue, and according to an old friend, from before I lived on this island, they sparkled like the stars. He has stubble on his chin that gave him a rugged look.
"What can I say? It's not my fault I look gorgeous!" he smirked lightly then hugged me and kissed my cheek. "Be safe dear sister. There have been rumors that Arthur has been sailing near my border more then he should. I don't want to lose you a second time."
I hugged him back and whispered, "You are in more danger then me. Watch your back, I would hate to find a dagger there when you return." He nodded then boarded his ship, the Rose of Summer. I waved as he sailed off. "Je t'aime brother!" I shouted at his disappearing form.
As I walked back to the house I thought of what Francis had said. Arthur huh? I had heard the stories of him from the other men in my brother's crew. They said he was a dangerous pirate and had recently become the English Lord of the Seas. And as a Lord of the Sea he had to be one of the most powerful pirates. Most of the Lords were described as ruthless, greedy, and protective of their territory. My brother was the French Lord, and one of the few Lords considered kind, a fact he blames on me. Powerful as Francis might be, if he was worried about Arthur, he must be trouble.
~Six months later~
I watched my dog, Ivette, run around the beach with a stick in her mouth. After a few minutes the German shepherd ran back to me and placed her head in my lap. Sighing I ran my fingers through her fur. It had been six months; the longest Francis had ever been away. I was running short on supplies and didn't know how long they would last. I let out a groan and laid down in the sand, my arms crossed over my face to hide the sun.
I felt Ivette get up, a few minutes later I hard the soft rumble of her growl turn in to loud barks. I shot up instantly and looked around, she was running around the beach and barking franticly at the water.
I peered out across the water and felt my heartbeat quicken. In the distance the shape of a large ship took form. My brother was finally coming home, I let out an excited laugh and ran to the house. I changed out of my work clothes and into a white shirt, and leather pants. I checked my self in the mirror and added a purple skirt over the pants, and a belt adorn with gold and jewels. I hung my katanas from it and grabbed my hat with a purple feather and purple gems.
I raced back to the beach and looked at the ship excitedly. A burst of fear went through my body when I realized it wasn't the Rose of Summer. But it disappeared just as quickly as it appeared. My brother had dozens of ships docked in different places if he ever needed or wanted a new one. Plus only my brother knew about this island, that's why I was here. No pirate would be stupid enough to travel this deep into his territory.
The ship docked and a single man jumped out and on to the beach. I took a step back and Ivette let out a low growl, gluing herself to my side. His white shirt was unbuttoned to reveal muscular abs. The golden treaded pads on the shoulders of his jacket identified him as a Captain. The jacket looked heavy and was red with blue cuffs, and golden buttons. A sword was attached to his black leather pants with a thick black belt. I took a closer look at the sword, it was beautiful, the golden handle was adorned with gems. He wore a black pirate hat with a large white feather in it over his blonde hair. His eyes were an emerald green that glinted in the sun under his bushy eyebrows. I had no idea who he was but I had to admit he was very handsome.
He was staring at me, his eyes slowly traveling up and down my body. A smirk planted itself on his face, "I knew that frog was hiding something from the rest of us. Although I had no idea it was a beautiful girl. Are you his wife? I hate to tell you but cheats on you a lot by the way." His British accent came out like silk as his eyes rested on mine.
I drew my swords, "I am not his wife. Who are you?" I said coldly and felt Ivette tense beside me.
He smirked carefully eyeing my dog, "I'm sorry love, I forgot to introduce myself." He took off his hat and bowed, "I am the infamous pirate, Arthur Kirkland. Nice to meet you. . . ?"
"Beka, what do you want?"
"Well now that I see you I must say. I want you dear." His eyes lit up in joy and he moved to me. I lifted a katana and pointed it at him. "Is that anyway to treat a guest?"
"You are not a guest, you are an intruder." I narrowed my eyes as he drew his sword. Glancing down at Ivette I gave her a command, "Ivette, Maison." Responding to the French command, she backed up slowly then ran to the house.
"Are you going to be difficult?" I raised my eyebrows and smiled. A sigh escaped his lips and moments later he lunged. The strike was aimed for my throat but in an instant I ducked under it and slashed my left katana at his legs. He easily jumped away and swiped at my stomach, I went to block it but at the last second he changed his movement so the sword arched up and stopped at my chin. "Now then love, drop your swords and give up. You can't beat me."
I growled softly then dropped to the ground and swept his legs from under him. He landed on his side but stabbed up at my ribs. I blocked with my right katana and slashed at his face with my left. He rolled out of the way and stood up.
"Not bad for a female, and a French female at that. I thought you would be just as bad as your brother." He said. "But I must say your form is seriously lacking love." I tilted my head, about to make a witty remark when he jumped. I moved my left katana to stop him but he hit my wrist with the handle of his sword. Pain throbbed in my wrist as I cried out in pain and dropped the katana. He quickly grabbed my right hand and twisted so that I was facing away from him, my arm pinned to my back. He continued twisting until I couldn't hold the right katana any longer. I heard the muffled sound as it landed in the sand.
"I like feisty women," he whispered in my ear then bit it lightly. "You will be an interesting girl to have with me."
I blushed madly then brought my head back slamming into his nose. He laughed but didn't let go. I sighed in frustration and practically growled, "You'll regret this when my brother kills you. I hope I'm there when he finds you so I can watch you bleed out."
"You mean your Frenchie's sister?" he laughed loudly. "Oh this will be good. If you're related to him I bet you're really good in bed." I moved to stomp on his foot with my heel but he quickly side stepped and spun me around hugging me to his chest. "Don't worry love, my men won't hurt you. I want you all to myself." He whistled and five burly men jumped to the shore. "Grab this beauty some of her clothes, and anything else of worth in the house. It looks like the Frog keeps her spoiled."
"That's were you're wrong bastard," I talked into his shirt. "My brother only gives me things that I need. Granted they are very nice and expensive, but the extra stuff he hides. I'm not a spoiled brat." I smiled. Francis only gave me a few things that weren't clothing pieces. It wasn't that he was greedy, I just didn't want any of it. Very few things caught my attention or meant something to me. I wasn't like other women that wanted a bunch of things. Arthur's smile faltered for a moment but then went back to the ever present smirk.
"Well at least I have you for a prize. And what a prize you are." Anger began boiling inside me as I kneed him hard between the legs. He yelped and fell to a knee, while I grabbed a katana and ran to the house. "Ivette! Venir!" I yelled, and saw her dart out of the house and to me.
I reached the house and yanked open the door breathless. I ran up the stairs and to the left then ran down the hallway to the last room, Ivette never leaving my side. They were going to capture me, that I knew, but I had to make sure Francis knew that too. I opened the door to my room and locked it behind me. The room was large, containing a king size bed made from redwood and had drapes coming from it, a closet with many clothes, three wooded chests filled with random things, and two wooden desks with matching chairs.
I ran to the desk in the far corner and picked a sheet of paper and a quill and wrote quickly.
Dearest brother,
Kirkland came to the island, I don't know how he found out but don't worry. I'll be fine, you taught me well. I know he is going to take me but I also know you'll find me, I'm not scared. Not this time. They will be here soon, Je T'aime Brother.
I rolled up the paper and pushed a button on the bottom of the desk, a little drawer beside my bed opened and I stuffed it in. Years ago my brother had places made in my room for me to hide things if something ever happened. At the time I thought he was being overprotective and childish but now, I thanked him for them. I went to the bed and pulled one of the drapes three times as Ivette began to growl. I watched impatiently as a part of the ceiling was lowered with ropes. I put the chest that held my valuable presents on the piece of ceiling that had fallen. I heard footsteps approaching the door and Ivette's soft growl turned into a loud warning bark.
My heartbeat quickened, I was running out of time as I grabbed a rope and yanked until the piece went back into place along with the chest. Just as I finished someone pounded on the door. Ivette started snarling furiously as I held up the katana, looking at her I told her what she had been waiting for, "Attaque."
The moment the door fell inward Ivette lunged at the closest man to her and suck her teeth in to his arm. Stunned, the men backed up and looked warily at her tense form. Seeing the opening I leaped and ran my katana into the shoulder of the first pirate. He fell screaming to the ground, I yanked the katana out then spun to the right to avoid someone's sword. I heard the solid thunk as that sword embedded into the door frame. I leapt past the men and swung at another as I dove into the hallway.
I heard Ivette snarling at the men as I ran past all the rooms and turned to the stairs. Once outside I turned to call Ivette back when someone tripped me. A surprised yelp escaped my mouth as I called out, "Ivette, Venir!" I felt a knee press into my back and my hands were pulled behind me and tied. "That was a dirty move, I love the way you fight." I could hear the arrogance in the British voice.
Seconds later I heard a low growl come from the door. "Call off the dog love." I felt the tip of a knife being placed in my back. "Now."
"Cessez." I saw her relax slightly, "Deposer." She laid down, her eyes staring at mine.
"Smart dog, only responds to French right? Very clever of your brother." The men finally rushed out only to stop when they saw their Captain. "How hard is it to catch one whore! You idiots!" he yelled at them.
"She locked herself in a room, and she stabbed Tim, and cut Josh! Not to mention that hellhound left quite a few marks." I turned my head to see the two I hurt staggered out holding their wounds. "See?"
Arthur's eyes narrowed dangerously. "And I'll have your tongue if you talk to me like that again. Understood?" The man nodded, his eyes full of fear. "Good, now just go get her some clothes." The uninjured men ran into the house again. Arthur picked me up and threw me over his shoulder smiling. "Now love, what am I going to do with you?"
"Let me go?" I said with a seductive voice.
He laughed. "No can do beauty. You are definitely coming with me." He began walking to his ship. "You can bring your dog, but I will kill it if it causes trouble."
Rolling my eyes I whistled and watched her ears perk up expectantly, "Venir." She darted toward us and walked beside Arthur.
I turned my attention to the ship ahead of me and examined it more closely. From what I could see it was very fancy perhaps 80-90 feet long. It looked to be made of redwood, the top half painted black with gold designs. There were three levels of cannons, with seven cannons on each level. Three big white sails hung down with ropes everywhere. Lanterns were hung every ten feet or so along the rails, as well as two on each mast. Arthur carried me up the ramp and across the ship, straight into the Captain's Cabin.
Beka's German shepherd is pretty awesome right? xD if you couldn't guess what the commands meant just tell me and I'll put something next chapter to help with that.
Review please! :3
