SERENITY
by Jade

I sit at the window watching the sun slowly descend below the horizon. The colors left
behind burst forth showing the brilliance of the day one last time before they slowly fade away as
darkness reclaims the night.

Fireflies flitter across the darkened landscape ilHuminating it briefly, while goblins follow
close behind chasing them. I can hear them chuckling as a young child might at finally catching its
prey. Opening its hand, ever so slightly, the firefly makes its escape sending the goblin squealing
in laughter. I chuckle softly to myself. Still, something is missing.

Off in the distance, flying majestically over the Goblin City, a single white owl flies out
over the Labyrinth. I know that it is my king and my heart flutters. He has given me so much but
all I can give him in return is my love. He has never asked for anything more and never will.

I think back to the day I first came here, and have to smile. I was in a world of chaos and
destruction with nobody left but myself. I had nowhere to go, but Jareth the Goblin King was
there. He saved me from a meaningless life and brought me here to the Underground. Now I live
in peace and serenity. Harmony fills my every word. Where there was a void of emptiness and
negativity, it is now filled with contentment and promise. I long no more for days gone by, but
rather look to the future and everything it brings.

Music riding on the light breeze lets me know a storm is coming. Clouds roll in, crackling
with thunder, a sound that is soothing to my senses. With rain, the Labyrinth is refreshed and
renewed. Droplets of rain fall softly against the castle. I breathe in the freshness the rain leaves
behind as it cleanses the Labyrinth. I close my eyes and can hear the rain drops as they fall and
make contact with the ground. I have peace.

The door opens bringing me out of my thoughts. Turning around, I see Jareth standing in
the doorway, his blonde hair wisping around his face. There is a weariness in his eyes but he
smiles all the same.

"Are you busy?" he asks, his voice smooth and inviting.

I shake my head no and smile back at him.

"Care to join me?" he inquires, a hint of mystery sparkling in his eyes.

"Of course, Jareth." I reply, getting to my feet. And with that, I walked to him, taking his
hand and pulling the door closed behind me.

The End
