You're with Meredith when she calls. You're so happy that you don't bother to check the ID, but you answer immediately.
"Derek." she says.
"Nancy." you comment, polite but annoyed.
"It's about Addie."
"I'm gonna hang up." you tell her, cutting her off.
"No!" she begs, hurt. "Let me finish... You don't know what happened!"
"She slept again with my best friend – excuse me, my ex-best friend?" you grin.
"She was raped."
You take a flight the next morning, don't care about your girlfriend. You don't even bother to explain, nor tell her that you have a wife, on the other coast of America.

You say: "Addie, open the door."; "Don't call me that.", she answers.
There's no expression in her voice, and this literally scares the crap out of you, because there's always something in her voice.
"Please." you beg in a whisper, barely audible through the door.
Then, there's a lot of silence, and you try and hear her breath.
You put an hand on the door, then the head too; she's crying, but you don't know that yet.
You wait, she needs to get out of that room now, so that you can hold her; she has no more reasons to do it. Anything left.
Her phone rings.
Her cat mews.
Your hearts beat.
Do you ever feel like breaking down?
Do you ever feel out of place?
Like somehow you just don't belong
And no one understands you
A sob.
A silent scream.
A not spoken offer of help.
Inaudible like all the things that you wanna tell her, all the things that you never told.
"Would you... open the door? I really need to be near someone right now."
And she understands that you're more broken than her.
She sighs. "Okay."
You wait again, as she stands up and catches some strength for when she will see you.
Some things we don't talk about
Rather do without
And just hold a smile
She smiles; she's beautiful, you think, and you can't help yourself and smile back at her beauty.
"Hey." your voice chokes, despite all the efforts you make for it not to.
You stay still, staring at each other.
"Derek..."
She looks peaceful, and you subconsciously reach out an hand to stroke her hair.
She suddenly pulls back, terror in her light eyes, suffocating a little scream that wants to come out.
She's so selfless that she doesn't want to make you feel bad, or helpless, or to scare you.
So, she pulls herself back together, and gives you a little smile.
I know, she knows
That I'm not fond of asking
True or false, it may be
She's still out to get me
You both lose track of time. Seconds, minutes, then a few hours go by. You don't say anything, because for the first time in a long time you can read each other's mind again. There will be weeks, and years, and yet again decades. And you both hope you'll be together, because you know you won't be able to get through this apart.
You make me happy
Whether you know it or not
You should be happy
That's what I said from the start
One another's happiness is all you care about right now, and you think about letting her go, if she wants it. Probably, the thought flashed in her mind too. But you know you can't let go. You need love, and you can't deny that you'll only be happy by her side.
A/N: Wow. It took me a whole lot to write this. I hope I did it okay. The songs are "Welcome to my life" by Simple Plan, "Never say never" by The Fray, "Naive" by The Kooks and "Happy" by Never Shout Never.
