Hatter in Wonderland
Prologue:
The alcohol just wasn't doing what it should. Three empty bottles stood before me but the pain that had driven me to this place was still aching through my body, relentless and overpowering. In just a blink of an eye, life had gone from being a whirl of happiness and pleasantries to a pit of unbearable distress and frustration. What had I expected? A long, fulfilling relationship with the woman of my dreams? Paradise in the arms of a beautiful lady who longed to be with me? Well, that same lady had taken my heart and ripped in two with her bare, red-nailed fingers, leaving a bloody mess on the ground.
Oh yes. Life was crap and fake and destructive and now here I was, blowing my mind on the strongest alcohol they had. Out of the corner of my eye, I could see a blonde woman sitting in the corner sipping a red liquid, her eyes watching me with intrigue. The me of the past would have ignored her obvious interest without a hint of hesitation but, then again, the me of the past would not have been sitting in a bar, trying to knock itself senseless. Today was a day of firsts. I stood up from the stool, feeling the effects of the alcohol in a wave of dizziness. My head was beginning to pound under the influence, an added pain to my bleeding heart. I struggled slightly to stay upright as I moved along the brown-tiled floor. The blonde was watching me with wondering eyes, the blueness of them sparkling with mischief. Despite the fuzziness that was beginning to take hold in my mind, the appearance of this blonde stranger was strangely clear. She was pale, a trait that was accentuated under the neon yellow lights, and very thing, anorexic almost. Her clothes I could not discern from where I stood because of the obstructing table, but I could imagine that it consisted of the least bit of fabric possible.
"Hello stranger," she purred as I came within a few inches of her. She flashed a pearly white smile under a layer of blood red lipstick and then nodded towards an empty seat. "Why don't yourself down and let me buy you a drink?"
"I've had enough to drink, thanks. But the seat, I'll take." I winked at her and in a slightly dazed fashion, pulled over the chair and seated myself. "The name's Hatter by the way."
Her eyes wandered to the hat that stood perched atop my head and tittered appreciatively. "I'll bet by the end of the night we'll have an even better name for you."
In that instant, I realized just how stupid I was being. Ironically, being intoxicated had made everything so much clearer. "Sorry Blondie, but tonight's just not going to be that night."
Five minutes later, I emerged from the tavern, my body soaking with red liquid...Blondie had not been so understanding. Another twenty minutes...I was opening the door to my flat...stumbling along the darkened hallway...praying that I could make it to the show. Two minutes later...collapsed on bed...knocked out...reeking of Bloody Mary...defeated...
A.N. Hi everyone! This is Finny Rivens here. This is my first story on Fanfic so I hope you all enjoy it. In cause you can't tell, this takes place before Hatter meets Alice and as the summary says on my profile: this story will run from the past and into the SyFy Alice and will be completely told from Hatter's perspective. I know it might be a little slow seeing as it's only the prologue, but I hope you enjoy the beginning of the story and if you would like to: please review. it would make me extremely happy :D
