All That We Let In

Alfred cringed a bit when Arthur took his hand and dragged him into the restaurant.
"Okay, give me the reason you wanted to go out on a date all the sudden?" The brit had lead them to a special table in the corner. They had ordered and were eating already. "Oh, and also what happened to pissy Iggy? Did I do something wrong?"
"No, I just feel really happy today. If you push it, old Iggy WILL come back." Alfred cringed at the thought.
"Okay still, a date?" America shifted in his seat. "I usually ask you!"
"I have a surprise!" Iggy smiled and got up after they had eaten, "I prepaid. Are you ready?"
America smiled slightly "Sure"

"Umm.. I was a bit worried at that restaurant Iggy" America looked down at the pavement as they walked in a park.
"Why?" Arthur had never seen America worried, even during the wars.
"I—just being together. In front of so many people."
"You mean to say you're scared of peer's pressure?" They had found a park bench, and the American now had his hands over his face and his knees close to his chest. England spoke soothingly, "After all that we let into our lives, the wars, the treaties and the revolutions. There is one thing in common , and that was our secret love. Whether then, when we hid it from each other , or now, when we are together, it was still there. Nothing can crush it, especially not a lonely idiot in a restaurant that doesn't know the full extent of our love."
Alfred was now looking up at England, stunned, 'He has a way with words!'
"Now look at me carefully." Arthur sighed and reached into his pocket. "Now Alfred, I don't want us to ever be apart, and I know it's a bit soon, but I need to ask." Arthur got down on one knee and finally fished a box out of his pocket. He opened it, and inside was a ring. A wedding ring. "Alfred, I've loved you for so many years. Will you marry me?"
The American answered with a kiss. "Yes, after all that we've let in, I still love you, Arthur. Yes."
