A Blast From the Past
Stars. Nothing but stars outside the Slave VI's viewport as Boba Fett was waking up. He looked over to see that he had received a transmission during his slumber.
He got up, put on some clothes, and brought up the transmission.
It read, "I've got a well-paying job for you. Come to Manlar's Cantina in Anchorhead on Tatooine. Do not tell anyone about this."
Not like I have anyone to tell, thought Fett. Besides, I could use the money.
He typed up the hyperspace coordinates for Anchorhead, then decided to go back to sleep for the three-hour trip.
The jerking of returning into realspace awakened Fett. He looked out of the viewport to see the oh-so-familiar planet of Tatooine. He involuntarily rubbed the scars he had received from the Sarlacc. He then looked down at his new cybernetic leg he had bought to replace his lower right leg he lost to the Sarlacc. Just remembering the experience of The Pit of Carcoon sent shivers down his spine.
A few minutes before docking, Fett donned his Mandalorian battle armor he had to continually replace so many times because something always happened to them. So he had decided to refit and repaint his father's armor. He then armed himself with his blaster rifle and approached the hatch. As he walked out, an official-looking man came up to him.
"Hello, and welcome to Anchorhead! I am a representative of Illumain Corporation, the corporation owning this fine facility. Unfortunately, your ship is not scheduled for docking. And so you must pay a 100 credit docking fee," the man said.
"Fine. Take your credits," Boba Fett threw a 100 credit chip into the officer's hand and marched out of the docking bay.
As Fett entered Anchorhead, everything went silent. Everyone stepped back in fear of him. He paid no mind to it and walked past them and into the cantina.
When he approached the bar, he noticed a Mandalorian out of the corner of his eye gesturing him to sit down.
Fett sat down, and the Mandalorian leaned over and whispered, "Did you get the transmission?"
"Yes. Who's heads are gonna fly?"
"His name is Jlamir Karath. The bounty I'm giving you is 6,000,000 credits."
"6 million?!" whispered Fett in disbelief.
"Yes. And I'll give you 2,000,000 upfront."
"That's a lot of credits. Is it worth it? Or maybe it's not enough? How strong is this guy?"
"To tell you the truth, I'm not completely sure. But that's a heck of a lot of money. So will you take the job?"
"Give me 2,500,000 right now and you've got yourself a bounty hunter."
"Deal," the Mandalorian said as he held out his hand to shake.
Fett shook it. "How do I find this Karath man?"
"He's at a planet that's on no galactic maps you can find. But fortunately for you, I have hyperspace coordinates."
"And how might the hyperspace coordinates of an unknown planet not on any galactic maps happen to come into your possession?"
"Let's just say I have... a long family lineage."
"Well I don't really need to know more than that. How will I find you when I kill Karath?"
"Don't worry, I'll find you," the Mandalorian handed Fett a datapad containing the hyperspace coordinates and a credit chip containing 2,500,000 credits. Fett took them and then walked out of the cantina and back to the docking bay.
Typing in the hyperspace coordinates back on the Slave VI, a little blue planet put itself on his hyperspace map. To Fett's surprise, it was fairly close to the Core Worlds.
How can a planet that is so close to the center of the galaxy be unknown? wondered Fett.
He took off from Tatooine and finished typing in the hyperspace coordinates. With a jerk, the Slave VI entered hyperspace.
