Back again with another new story! This is based upon what happens after the episode "Billy The Kid".

Once again, as always, the characters of "Sue Thomas: F. B. Eye" do not belong to me in any way. I am simply a dedicated fan who loves to write out these little scenes.

Please read, comment, share, follow, and enjoy! I have a list of my stories on my profile if you want to read more. I have lists for each season, besides stories from both before and after the show. Now, who votes that we go join Jack Hudson and Billy as they start out on an adventure? I sure do!

"Is that it, Billy?" Jack called to the young man who was like his little brother.

"Yes," Billy called back, stepping out of his apartment and locking the door. Jack's heart gave a small twinge as he saw Billy's wan face. The kid had just been released from the hospital, glad to get out with his life after being drugged without his knowledge. Under the influence of the lethal combination chemicals Billy had shot his boss, Judge Kendall, without an understanding of what he was doing. Jack, having known Billy for so long, could see how the guilt of that unconscious crime had weighed on him despite Judge Kendall's complete forgiveness and compassion. Thankfully, Judge K and Billy were both recovering well, and now Jack was helping Billy move back to his home town. Washington, D.C. was just not for Billy anymore, despite his honest and diligent attempts to fit into the footsteps of his "brother" Jack.

"Jack, man, are we going?"

Jack snapped out of his reverie and nodded. Billy must have returned his key to the apartment manager already. Jack shook himself out of his thoughts as Billy threw his battered backpack into the back seat, then jumped into the front seat. Jack got into the car as well and looked over Billy as they buckled their seat belts. Despite the last few horrible weeks, he could not help but notice the new light in Billy's eyes. Although it had been an awful experience there was now a better understanding between the two men. Jack had opened his eyes to the fact that be a lawyer, never be an FBI agent, never be a Jack Hudson, Jr.. Billy had also changed, becoming more honest and open with Jack, letting the agent see his heart as it was, broken yet ready to heal.

"What are these?" Billy asked after some small chat as they made their way out of the large city. Jack turned to see what Billy was holding. He smiled as he recognized the pamphlets.

"I picked up some college brochures and pamphlets from some different programs."

Billy fanned the papers out, his face softening until Jack half-suspected that the kid would start crying.

"These are for ... me?"

Billy's voice was quiet, raspy from emotion. Jack smiled. Billy was daring to hope.

"Yes."

Billy looked up, his eyes unmistakably bright with ... something. He expressed gratitude without saying a single word.

They drove on and on in silence broken only by Billy eagerly flipping through the pamphlets. Jack approached their regular route home, mentally hesitated, then chose to drive on past. Billy raised his head and looked out the window.

"Jack!" he exclaimed. "You missed ..."

"No, I didn't." Jack grinned at Billy. "I just figured we'd try a new way back."

"Why? Don't you want to get home in time to visit with your parents before heading back?"

"Billy," Jack said slowly, "today is a day for new paths."

Billy frowned, then his brow relaxed in understanding. He nodded. The two unofficial brothers made eye contact for a short moment, then they both turned their eyes back on the road. Neither of them knew how they would get there, but they knew that they would both get home.
