Chapter 1
The Forbidden Castle
Emily sat by the simmering rocks by the shore. Shona, her best mermaid friend popped her head up from the water. Her sparkling dirty blond hair glowed in the sunlight.
"Emily!" she called excitingly.
"What?"
"It's so cool! You have to come see for yourself!"
"I don't know, even my legs are getting tired!"
Shona gave her the saddest puppy dog eyes. Emily sighed.
"Fine, but I can't stay for long!"
She grinned happily and started to swim away. She laughed, got up on a rock and jumped into the water. It felt warm and bubbly. Just what she needed after a long day of doing absolutely nothing!
A clownfish swam quickly passed them. Suddenly, she felt her legs get squished together. She felt a push and looked down. A green fin stood there flipping its way across the ocean. Emily grinned. Shona looked behind her, she was catching up. She flipped faster.
"Oh, you want a race, then a race you shall have." Emily burst next to her and smiled. She shook her head and went even faster.
Suddenly, Shona stopped. She swam deeper and deeper and deeper until they came across a huge barrier. She swam and looked over. She followed.
"Wow!" Emily exclaimed.
"Shush!" Shona replied. "There are guards!" She points to sharks all around. There was a huge castle. It was hidden well. It was amazing seeing all the unique seaweed designs around. "I bet someone lives there. And I'm going in, but I need help." She's looks at Emily with hopeful eyes.
Emily squints and jumps figuring out what's she's asking from her. "No!" she said.
"Yes," Shona replied.
"No!"
"Yes!"
"No!"
"Yes!"
"No!"
"No!"
"Yes!"
Shona gave a mischievous grin. Emily grunts and murmured something under her breath. "Fine!"
"Yes," Shona's eyes lit up with excitement. "Okay, I have a plan…"
–
"That's the worst plan I have ever heard!" Emily says.
"I suspect you don't have a better idea," she winked.
"No."
"Come on!"
"Why am I the distraction!? You swim quicker!"
"You escaped places with guards before a million times. Trust me! You'll be fine!" she said wearing the fakest smile.
Shona swam out of sight. Emily took a deep breath and started toward the guards. "Hey! Sharkos! Wanna come get me!? They all turned to her. Shona giggled, covered her mouth and pressed against the wall, so nobody saw her. She went up the steps to the castle.
"Then come on!" The guards started to chase her through the barrier. "I can't swim this fast for long! I'm still new at this mermaid thing!" she looked behind to see Shona creaking open the door. 'Oh yeah, just leave me here!' she thought angerly. She took a sharp turn and hid behind a pile of weeds. They passed, without looking back.
"So, your trying to break in," someone said from behind me. I looked back and saw a merman, he looked about my age, maybe older. He had brown, flowing hair. He raised an eyebrow. "Well, it won't work with that plan of yours. What's your name mermaid?"
"One, it wasn't my plan. Two, I'm Emily. Emily Windsnap."
"So, you're the one!"
"The one what?"
"The one who's dad got taken hostage…"
"Don't speak that way about my dad!" she snapped.
"No wonder your called Wind - SNAP!" he chuckles to himself. Her face turned bright red. She heard panting from in front of the pile of seaweed. She took a peek. It was Shona.
"Hey, psst." she says. She looks down at me.
"Emily!" she says swimming next to her. "There are guards inside! Who is this?" The merman ran his fingers through his hair.
"The names Henry, and did you really think that there aren't guards inside?" he snorts. "Pathetic."
"Oh really?" Shona cracks her knuckles.
"Shona!" Emily says blocking her path toward the boy. "He's not worth it."
"Shona?" he said. "Pretty name."
"That is the worst lie I have ever heard."
"Look, I might just have a way in…"
"Why should we believe you?" Emily asks looking as tough as she could.
"You don't." Henry swam farther away into the sea. She let out an annoying groan and started going the other direction towards home. Shona grabs her by the arm.
"Oh, you're going."
Thank you for reading!
Authors Note: I am a young writer with big dreams. I'm open to feedback! I absolutely love fairytales. Just to write a story about mermaids makes my heart bloom in happiness. I want to become an author and I thought writing FanFiction would be an easy way to show the world my love of writing. There will be more chapters soon! A big thanks to my parents and everyone that believes in me. THANKS AGAIN!
