Just a short Sam/Dylan. Dylan's my favourite character, and I'm beginning to like Sam too. Please let me know what you think.

Sam looked into CDU, it was quiet. She went in and sat next to my ex-husband. He didn't look up. "Dylan we need to talk."

He sighed and folded away his paper. "Go ahead."

I handed him the divorce papers and waited for his reaction.

"What is this?"

"Divorce papers."

"You always did have a talent for stating the obvious." He paused. "I thought-"

"Our marriage was over a long time ago Dylan. I need closure, I need to be able to get on with my life. I thought I could do that by running off to Afghanistan but I couldn't deal with that. I thought I could get myself a nice, boring job and get my head together, but fate decided that wasn't going to be either. I need this, a clean break."

"When was it over for you?"

"I don't know if you will remember it." For Sam it felt like yesterday. "That night when we were watching the news, it was Afghanistan. You pulled the plug out and went to walk the dog. I cried and cried that night Dylan, and you weren't there. You were never there when I needed you. I'm sorry, but I can't-" Sam shook her head and ran out. Dylan paused for a moment and then followed.

"Go away Dylan."

.

.

He found her in the ladies, drying her eyes. Sam looked up. "Okay, this is the ladies loo."

"That night, Dervla and I sat on the doorstep."

"It was raining."

"I know."

Sam frowned. "Why didn't you come inside?"

"I wouldn't have know what to say. That was always the problem whatever I said wouldn't have been right."

"Fair point. I wasn't quite... right back then."

Dylan sighed slightly. He remembered how Sam was back then, the nightmares, the silences, the tears and the random explosions of temper. Afghanistan had taken something from her, as he knew it would, which had taken a while to return. His poorly disguised "I told you so" face didn't help matters. They hardly talked in the last couple of weeks, Sam was right, their marrige was over a long time ago. Sam changed, and Dylan didn't. He looked at the dark blonde standing before him, as Zoe said, she was out of his league, always had been. He would miss her.
