I feel as though I've been awake all night. Cold wind brushes my face as I lay there, staring into the darkness. I sit up, drowsy and numb all over. Nights have been super cold, of late and it's especially bad out here on the streets. I force myself to get up and slouch down the road. The morning is unusually quiet filled with not even the chirp of a mocking jay. The blinds of houses are closed and most people are still sleeping. No need to wake up early when you can sleep in. After all, it's The Reaping.

I wander my usual route just to kill time. Only passing a few early morning hob shoppers. I go past a small family, well groomed and in pristine shape. I roll my eyes and then come to my senses. It's not their fault that they're richer than me. Heck, it ain't even my fault that I'm living on the streets. I sigh and dash into a public restroom.

I wouldn't have to meet up with Adelaide until around 9 a.m. It couldn't be past 6 right now. I wash my face and hands, thoroughly scrubbing underneath my fingernails and inbetween my fingers. I even take the time to wash my hair over the sink with foamy soap. By the end, I'm looking slightly better. Now, I just need Adelaide to do my hair and lend me a dress. Even though she lives the street life, she doesn't dress like it. Her distant uncle pays for her education and sends her dresses to wear. Some of them 3 sizes too big.

I wander around town for the next few lingering hours. They drag by as I roam the streets, keeping myself away from the hub until Adelaide arrives.

I finally see her standing outside the hub, looking youthful and pretty, as usual.

"Rosalie!" She calls, smiling and waving when she sees me. She seems WAY too cheerful for a Reaping Day. Then again, both of us are only entered once, so I'm sure she's not even the slightest bit anxious. Just wants to eat strawberries later.

"Adelaide." I say, nodding my greeting.

She runs up and hugs me, almost crushing my ribs. For a fragile twelve year old, she's strong.

"Let's get you fixed up."

She says, looking me up and down.

"What do you mean?" I say jokingly

She punches my arm and replies

"Let the fun begin!"
