Nightmares

Charlie had a nightmare. She had been doing fine sleeping in her own room, but when she was moved out of her crib so that Toby could use it, she couldn't sleep well. It was the first night that Toby was home, and Amy and Bob were busy fussing over the crying newborn, while the previously youngest child was left whimpering in her room.

Charlie decided that she would seek Teddy for comfort. She toddled down the stairs into the basement where her big sister slept. She, slowly, managed to open the slide door to Teddy's room, and walked over to her sister's sleeping form. Slowly, she reached out a hand and shook the elder girl's shoulder, successfully waking her up.

"Teddy." Charlie spoke, her voice cracking slightly, tears in her eyes.

"Charlie? What's wrong?" Teddy asked her little sister.

"Nightmare." Charlie said, looking up into her sister's eyes.

"What about mom and dad? Don't you usually go to them?" The elder girl asked, lifting Charlie onto the bed, and pulling the covers over both of their laps.

"Baby Toby keeps crying and mommy and daddy are taking care of him." Charlie explained. "And I don't wanna go PJ and Gabe's room."

"I can guess why." Teddy chuckled. "Come on, you can sleep with me tonight." The elder blonde told the toddler.

They both laid down, and Teddy reached for her camera and turned it on, directing the lense at the to of them.

"Hey Charlie." Teddy began, wrapping her free arm around her sister. "You're with me in my bed, and learning what it's like to have a younger sibling. Don't forget, no matter how much attention mom and dad direct to Toby, me, PJ or Gabe, they love you just as much as the rest of us. And if you ever go to PJ or Gabe after a nightmare - good luck Charlie!"
