Hmm...my first Once Upon A Time fanfiction...how exciting! :)

NOTE: I am in New Zealand, so my episodes are behind America and probably Britain too. So no spoilers!

Now, I very much doubt that you'll see many more coming from me, and no multi-chapters at all (because why would you change ANY of it?), but you never know. My main fandom is and always will be Doctor Who, however. (But if you're a fan there feel free to check out my stories, especially if you like Romana or OCs)

Okay, so I wrote this because I know that personally whenever the Mayor looks really kind and sincere, it screws with my mind and makes me feel sorry for her. So...I decided to write about it. No spoilers for any of the episodes, I don't think.

There was something about her face.

It was hard to remember sometimes. Her features were so often twisted with anger and hate that it was so easy to simply detest her and want to see her and her dark secrets crushed to the ground. That superior sneer full of power would dance at the corner of her mouth while her eyes cut into whoever she lording over with the message ,'I've crushed you. I'll crush you again and again.' This was the face that Emma knew best and the one Henry had spotted before anyone else.

The eye of the public could not see much further than the mask she wore when she was being the Mayor, the mask of the friendly woman with the strange son that had to go to counselling.

And then there was the face that most people would never notice because it was so similar to her friendly mask. It was when earnest sincerity suddenly appeared and there was no longer a cruel monster in front of Emma but a woman with pleading and hurt eyes. Emma didn't trust it for a second; she had seen the Mayor at her worst far too often to believe straight away that there was a nice, normal person inside. There was a very high chance that it was simply another mask. But could she ignore it completely? Could she ignore even the slightest possibility that she may have judged wrongly?

It messed with her mind, and in the end she simply had to try and forget about the sincere side, or else her stand against the Mayor would weaken.

But of course, that only made it dwell in her mind more than ever…the slight possibility that deep within the seemingly evil exterior and persona, the Mayor might actually still have a heart in there somewhere. And if so…what had happened to it?

Now, there is a high chance that this is really pointless and stupid, but if a single person enjoys this then I suppose it's worth it. :)

Please review and let me know what you thought!
