Disclaimer: I don't own Jemima or anything to do with CATS, not
that this poem makes any specific references or mentions names
anyway.
Notes: not hugely CATS-related, and just confused and confusing probably, that's how I was feeling. But I'm happy I've finished it, my first finished catspoem...
Whispers,
blossom blushes,
the fragile evening air.
A pair of star-led lovers,
a song that no one hears.
The magic scent of candles...
I want to understand.
I wish
for a love,
to be loved,
for a night under the stars.
For love to light a candle,
to share a broken dawn.
And sunlight,
and moonlight,
and the firelight of candles-
our artificial starlight;
burnt to grant a wish.
Dreaming,
sentimental,
and hopelessly romantic,
I watch the wistful candles
flickering. I dream.
Wide-eyed,
mesmerized...
they say that I am
Innocent,
must I believe I'm so
Naive?
I must know;
I look, I wonder...
my
eyes
wide
open
my
eyes
shine,
Candles cry,
and burn. Die.
Up in smoke
and dreams fly.
On paper wings of imagined love,
I'm free in loneliness
to sail the empty sordid skies,
to search the world,
to sing alone,
to live,
to laugh,
to cry,
to hide.
And dream always of
candles.
Just candles,
and their warmth,
and the deadly fascination.
A human sweetened nothing,
an empty promise to keep...
A memory of love to come,
a fading, wistful dream.
