A Sakura Tribute
Flashback: "You can't want this, Sasuke," she cried, throwing herself at him. He merely pushed her aside. "You're so annoying, Sakura."
She clung to her pillow, trying to force herself to let go. She'd been hiding from the truth all her life. She was but a nobody, Ino was always right. She was ugly as hell with her stupid pink hair and her stupid green eyes. Nobody liked her, not even Naruto. He was just too nice a guy for his own good; for anyone's good.
She threw the pillow across the room, the outer layer getting caught in the fan and tearing. Feathers flew everywhere, leaving her room a white mess. She hit her palms on the bed, a slight moan coming from the mattress. She groaned in emotional pain, the angst in her voice obvious. She wanted nothing more than to get away, forever.
She knew, she'd run. She'd run until and no one would miss her. She'd run so fast, even Naruto wouldn't be able to keep up with her. She'd run so long that no one would find her. She'd run past the other villages, past the sea, to a different land. She'd get away.
She started packing, hardly able to see. She was going to find a new village, far away from here. Maybe not even a Ninja Village. Somewhere she wouldn't get in anyone's way. Somewhere she'd be accepted.
She had a few outfits in her bag and the picture of Naruto, Kakashi and Sasuke. She promised to never forget them, no matter how much they all wanted her gone.
She, for the first time in her life, wished she'd been a wallflower.
She jumped out her window, landing softly in the night's grass. The cool breeze reached her hair, blowing the hair out of the dried tears on her face. She smiled half-heartedly as she walked away.
The memory brought back pain and cruelty inside her. She couldn't cry though. She wanted to, with all her heart. It was impossible.
"You can't want this, Sakura," he said, his voice blowing in the wind.
She turned, the kunai flashing past her. She jumped back, the kunai sinking into her skin not inches left of her heart.
"Sa… Naruto?"
"I'll do whatever I must to keep you here. Even if that means hospitalizing you," he whispered, helping her up. "I'm not going to lose both of my only friends."
