A/N: This is kind of a sequel to Death, being that it is called Death 2. While reading the first would give you some better background into this story, it is not necessary.
Death 2
Death. A word that for most is seen as a curse. To lose your life and lose all that you were. Or someone else dies, someone whom you are close to, and you feel as if a small part of yourself has died as well.
To others, death is a blessing, either by easing suffering, or because of a belief that a new adventure or life is waiting for you. Or prehaps you've lived a long, rich filled life, and are happy at how things turned out.
In my long life, I have seen much death. I've even caused it numerous times. I have seen, and been a part of war, where death is as natural as a parent's love for a child. I myself have come close many times to death.
But death does not come easy for me. For I am Duncan MacLeod of the Clan MacLeod. I have been alive for 400 years. I am Immortal. There are others like me. Some good, some evil. And though we are Immortal, we can still die if our heads are lost. My old friend Dawson once said that I had killed well over 100 Immortals.
While we struggle to stay alive, however, it is the loss of loved ones that hurt us the most. My own losses include my beloved Tessa, whom I was to marry before she was killed by a mortal thug. Only a few years later, my student, friend and young charge Ritchie was killed. Unfortunently, it was by my hand, while the hallucinations of a demon known as Ahriman haunted my vision. And my mortal friend Charlie, who was killed by an Immortal whom I promised Dawson I would not fight. I rectified that mistake, and took the villain's head.
Yet none of these were as painful as loosing my best friend, fellow clansman, and brother, Connor MacLeod. An old advesary from his days as a mortal had been stalking Connor, killing all he knew and loved. This Immortal, Jacob Kell, told both Connor and I that I was next on his list. And Kell's vast superiority in fighting Immortals far outdid my experiences and Connor's. So Connor devised a plan. To stop Kell, it would take both of our strength's combined. One of us would have to finally face Death.
I fought tooth and nail against the idea. But finally, Connor's persistance and wisdom won out. I took his head. And his last gift towards me, freely given, gave me the strenghth to stop, and kill, Kell. As his Quickening now pours through me, a question comes to mind: when will my time come?
