"Raice!" The sound echoed through the air. A large purple sphere erupted aimed straight at a figure resembling a children of around 8 or 9 years old. Birds flew away from the forest that now was filled with noise. The child ran away without a second glance, though he did stop to pick up something he apparently dropped.
The child fled the forest and ran straight into a busy street. Frightened by the cars that sped at him from every direction, he panicked and ran close to a school building. He hid behind a wall, and watched as people came out and met with their rides home. There was one particular person that he caught his attention though. It was a girl, of about sixteen, being apparently harrassed by a fat, and somewhat ugly boy about two years younger.
"Get away you creep!" She shouted. No one else seemed to pay attention (how true to life).
"Just LISTEN! If I don't get a girlfriend by the end of the year I'll kill myself!"
"Tch. Happy suicide then," replied the girl. Seeing this, the child decided to go help with the situation. He walked forward enough for the girl to see him, then beckoned her.
"Take this book," the child said, holding out a black book. "I think it may help..." The girl could hardly believe what she was hearing. A small child with overgrown brown hair offering HER help! Though the lines underneath his eyes did make her wonder. "Go up to the fat one and read this book." The girl seemed to understand.
She didn't have to move though. The ugly boy came up to the two of them.
"Oh, are you trying to steal MY girl?" he said to the child. "Well let's see how you like THIS!" He brought his arm back to punch the child. The girl quickly opened the book to the first page and was shocked to see that one sentence was glowing. She could only read that sentence, nothing more.
'The first spell,' she thought to herself. 'Skeltor?' She then had an idea. "SKELTOR!" She shouted. The child's eyes rolled back into his head, and his mouth opened wide. A large bolt of a dark lightning-like energy shot from his mouth. The force hit the boy so hard that it knocked him into the opposite wall. He was rendered unconscious.
The girl pulled the child aside and gaped at him in awe. "...HOW DID YOU DO THAT!" she shouted.
"It's simple," the child said. "But it is not the time to tell you. We're stuck together now, so I my as well tell you who I am. My name is Ridley. I am called a mmamodo. Though I'll explain later. And your name is...?"
"...Karen..." With that, Ridley walked up the sidewalk.
"Come." Karen followed, having no reason not to. Ridley led her up the street and into a small café named 'Minion's Café'. He pulled out a chair for Karen at a table and sat in another one.
"Well, you are probably wondering what this is all about." He then stood up and slammed his hands on the table. "It's simple. We have a battle to see who becomes the Mmamodo King every one-hundred years. We partner up with humans. You read the book. We cast spells. You burn others' books, got it?"
"Sort of..." Karen gave a slight nod.
"Good. We go on the offensive tomorrow. But first, food."
"Huh?"
"Food."
"..."
"So THIS is where you live?" Ridley couldn't help but laugh. He'd expected a lot more for living quarters.
"Well," Karen started. "My parents aren't exactly the CLEANEST people in the world."
"I'm well aware," Ridley mumbled to himself. He would have rolled his eyes, but Karen most likely wouldn't have seen it through the thick, yet straight brown hair that almost completely covered his eyes. "Ah well. We practice now."
"What?"
"We practice. Unless you want to get blasted away by another mmamodo, I suggest we get past the first spell. The spells are controlled by emotion. In other words, you mad means me powerful."
"Alright then..." Ridley chuckled to himself.
"...Good girl."
