This is just a simple story that wouldn't give me a reprieve until I wrote it. It isn't exactly by the book but I happen to like Severus and I don't like him being at odds with his only true childhood friend.

Severus Snape was standing in the rubble of Potter Cottage in Godric's Hollow. He silently
cried as he searched through the rubble. He found Lily in the ruins of the nursery. "Lily... Oh
Lily..." He gasped as she slowly opened her eyes. "S-sev...H-harry?" Severus gave her a
stabilizing potion. "Hagrid took him to Dumbledore. Lily, I'm so sorry for what I said to
you...You were my only true friend..." "All is well... between us Sev..." Lily harshly coughed.
When she moved her hand from her mouth, it was coated in blood. Severus moved to try and heal
her but she stopped him with a gentle,but cold, hand. " Sev...protect...my son...please..."
"I will Lily. You have my word. " She smiled softly at him as she breathed her
last. Severus cried for the last time that night as he buried his childhood friend with his
schoolhood rival. " Harry will be safe when he comes to Hogwarts Lily. I promise you..."
-Ten years Later-
"SLYTHERN!" Severus secretly smiled as his best friend's son became one of his treasured
snakes. 'Lily's eyes...' he thought happier than he has been in years.
