Six years after the tragic death of his wife, Ted finally accepted that it was time to move on and decided to try and rekindle his relationship with Robin. He had the brilliant romantic idea of returning to Carmichaels and stealing the blue French horn which made Robin fall for him in the first place. He then raced to Robin's apartment and rang her doorbell. Robin rushed to the window to see who was outside and to her surprise she saw the love of her life holding up the blue French horn. A smile spread across her face but it soon faded as she went tumbling out the window and onto the streets of New York City. Before Ted had the chance to save her, Ranjit drove past in his limo and "accidentally" ran her over.

When Ted rang up his dear friend Lily to break the news, she appeared to be inconsolable. However, once she got off the phone, she turned to her husband Marshall smiling and told him to "pay up,". Marshall too was upset at first, but he soon realised that Robin's death gave him the chance to create another game show. He called it 'Funeral Feud' and had his friends spin a wheel to decide on the details of Robin's funeral. Barney won the game and finally got to use his favourite play, "Weekend at Robin's". This was followed by a small, quiet funeral with Alan Thicke giving the service.

At the funeral, Barney glanced across the bar and locked eyes with Patrice. It was then when he realised that she was the one he was in love with all along.

Following the death of Robin, Ted began to slowly fall into insanity. He was convinced that Robin had been murdered and so he decided to use his detective skills to find out who the culprit was. He searched her apartment for clues and to his delight found a secret camera left there by Barney many years earlier. Ted played through the footage from the night of Robin's death and saw that it was none other than Richard Greenleaf, the murder house owner who pushed her out of the window.

Ted decided to pay Richard a visit and planned on confronting him, but when he saw the beautiful architecture of Richard's house he immediately forgot what he was there for. Mr. Greenleaf seized this opportunity to confess his undying lust for Ted and Ted was so overwhelmed by the beauty of his house that he decided to go along with Richard and move in with him.

Meanwhile, the newly engaged Barney and Patrice were visiting Robin's grave. As Barney laid down some flowers at her tombstone, Patrice commented on how beautiful Robin's final resting place was.

At once, the ground began to shake and an infuriated voice rang out from the sky.

"NOBODY ASKED YOU PATRICE!"
