Sister Bernadette looked over to see Timothy at clinic that day which was odd, because it was during school hours. She then looked over at Dr. Turner who looked like he was cross at Timothy.
She walked across the waiting area to them and said "Is everything all right, Doctor?
"They just sent him here! Why cant they deal with that at school? It's only a graze." he said with frustration
"Let me see here" she said as she gently grabbed Timothy's arm
After glancing at his arm, she told them "Well, I think that we're going to need a bandage. We should clean it first, though."
She gently let go of his arm and looked over at Dr. Turner as he said "Will you be alright with Sister Bernadette, while I finish seeing my patient? You're very kind, Sister."
The last part of that comment excited her way more than it should have.
"Let's get you sat down and we'll have that fixed up in a jiffy" she said as she sat Timothy down in one of the chairs in the waiting area. Dr. Turner walked back over to see his patient.
She examined his arm and told Timothy "I will be right back with some supplies so I can bandage your arm. Just stay put right here"
"Okay" he answered
She walked to the room with the medical supplies and opened the cabinet to get what she needed. She looked down at the supplies in her arms and made sure she had everything she needed, closed the cabinet and walked back to where Timothy was sitting. She kelt down to where they were face to face and put the supplies on the open chair beside them. She opened the bottle of hydrogen peroxide and poured some into a small bowl and then closed the bottle.
She then took a piece of gauze by her tweezers, soaked it in hydrogen peroxide and said to him "This will sting a little, but it won't last long"
She took the gauze soaked with hydrogen peroxide and dabbed it on the scrape.
"Ow!" Timothy exclaimed
"I'm sorry, it will be over soon" Sister Bernadette told him
In an attempt to distract him, she asked "So what is the story behind this?"
"We were spinning around at playtime…" he started
"Who is we?" Sister Bernadette asked
"Me, Jack, Thomas and Will" he answered
"We wanted to see how fast we could spin around without falling and I spun way too fast and fell to the ground" he added in a sad tone
"It's okay, accidents happen sometimes" Sister Bernadette replied as she rubbed his other arm to comfort him.
"But my dad was cross at me about it" Timothy said
"He wasn't cross at you, he was cross with the staff at your school" Sister Bernadette explained
Once she finished dabbing hydrogen peroxide on the cut, she put the gauze back in the bowl and grabbed a dry piece of gauze with her tweezers and placed it on the scrape. She took another piece of gauze and put it on the scrape so that it was fully covered. She put down the tweezers and picked up the bandage roll and started to wrap the part of Timothy's arm that had been cut.
When she finished wrapping his arm, she cut the bandage and said, "There, all better now"
"Thank you Sister Bernadette" Timothy told her
"You're welcome, I'll get you a biscuit out of the tin and then I will walk you back to school" she replied
"Sounds great" he said excitedly
The sun was shining bright that beautiful spring day as they walked to Timothy's school. She asked him questions which lead him to tell stories with great enthusiasm about what they were learning about at school that week and about the camping trip he took with the scouts last month. Before they knew it they had made it back to his school and she made sure that he got to his classroom before she left. She walked back to clinic that day with a different kind of joy in her heart that she couldn't quite explain.
