Notes: To start off with, this isn't actually a fic; it was my third person POV application for the rpg Paradisa. Somehow, I got in. If you want to know more about the game itself, check out the comm. Suffice it to say, this sort-of double drabble (final word count was 273 and the minimum requirement on the app was 250 ;) is set around the middle of Volume 3 of the manga/post-Episode 9 of the anime. No spoilers are given in any way, shape, or form :D

Disclaimer: DeathNote belongs to Ohba Tsugumi and Obata Takeshi. I'm just playing in their universe for a little while.

Yagami Light was a genius. He had always been at the top in all his classes, he had passed the college exams to the one university of his choice with perfect marks, and he had no real concern over his grades save to keep them perfect. He was the perfect son, any parents' dream come true.

And he couldn't be anything less than perfect. He was going to be the god of the new world, after all, and a god must be perfect.

But there was still one obstacle, and that pissed him off.

Light somehow managed to keep the scowl off his face as he watched the evening news, wary that he might still be under suspicion (and he had to be, why else would L himself be watching him so closely, so intent on him to the point that he was posing as another student... and damn the man for matching his score on the tests!) even as he wrote down another name and, in a fit of childishness, made it so the man would asphyxiate while reciting the American alphabet backwards and dying when he got to the letter "l". He was going to have to remove suspicion from himself... somehow. And that might be pretending to want to be around L. Perhaps getting involved in the Kira investigation... yes. That might work.

Or it might throw more suspicion on him. Either way, he had to know whatever it was the detective might possibly know.

Because Light was going to win once all was said and done; he was Kira, he was a god, and a god could not lose.
