Things Left Unsaid
(AN: This is NOT related to my crackfictions in any way. It's a short little ficlet I came up with after seeing what happens in Gyakuten Saiban 4 (or as it's going to be called in the states, Apollo Justice Ace Attorney). There's little to no reference to anyone beyond Phoenix from the original game (The judge and Payne don't count) and this just BEGGED to be written by my little inner shipper. Enjoy!
Phoenix Wright and related characters belong to Nintendo/Capcom.)
Same time every year he came. He entered the quiet area and strode among the solemn grey stones that sat in orderly rows, their mute proclamations of whose remains they now guarded. He strode up to one particular stone at the end of the path. It was simple, just like the small bouquet of white roses he laid in front of it. He knelt down and in a falsely cheerful voice began, "I know it's been a while since I've been able to make regular visits, so I hope you're not too irritated with me. A lot has happened in the past year. I'll try to keep to the important stuff, but I figured you wouldn't mind if I rambled a bit."
Pulling his jacket in tighter against the wind he continued, "Edgeworth decided to open his own law firm, He says that while working for Grossberg helped him have a better perspective on being a defense attorney, he got tired of being under someone. I haven't seen Maya since the last time I was here but she writes weekly and she says that she and Pearl are doing well. Maya was appointed heir to the Fey clan a couple weeks ago and she's quite thrilled with the responsibility. Let's see, what else…."
He smiled as he sat down cross-legged, "A New rookie defense attorney's training under me, even though he knows I lost my badge. He actually pulled my fat from the fire shortly after we first met. He's got a lot of potential if he stops being so nervous when he's cross-examining. I know I'm probably not teaching him half as well as I should, but I'm trying as best I can. Trucy's taken a shine to him, for some reason, and is acting as his assistant. He's also determined to have my disbarment removed." He chuckled, "If he does I think I might just jump back in the game, though I'm undoubtedly rusty. I'm sick of being a backroom poker player, even though the pay off is good. I really do miss sitting in the defense attorney's seat. Those three years were amazing, and I always kept you advice foremost in my mind."
The man's face grew sad as moved to kneel again and placed his head against the stone, "I always regretted not getting everything out in the open with you. I always figured I'd have more time until you were gone. I regret never telling you how much you meant to me, even before I worked for you. You were the only one who believed I was innocent and defended me. I knew then you were someone worthy of great respect. It was until after you took me under your wing and helped and supported me that I realized how much I…loved you. I always have, and I don't think anyone could take your place in my heart. I know you probably can't hear me anymore, But I wanted you to know. I will always love you…Mia Fey."
With that the man known as Phoenix Wright, former defense attorney, stood and placed his left hand on the stone in farewell before he turned and left. He didn't know that the spirit of Mia Fey had stood by and shed silent tears as she'd listened to him.
If only we hadn't left so much unsaid, Nick. If only…
