Chapter 1
16-year-old Jess came Terabithia alone as Maybelle wanted to stay home and read.
As soon as he crossed the bridge he headed straight for the treehouse.
He had been working on a picture of his best friend Leslie for a while now.
She had died when they were just ten. But as he approached the treehouse he noticed something was different.
Chapter 2
He noticed that the picture he was painting of Leslie had been moved. Jess knew he didn't move it so he wondered who had.
He climed up the steps to the treehouse and almost ran into some one. "I'm sorry," Jess said to the person.
"Jess Aarons, why weren't you with me that day?," the person said.
