The Choice

The Choice

For once in her life, Abby was undecided. This was a puzzle to hard for even her to solve. She had paced her lab back and forth for almost an hour, trying to come to a verdict. She hadn't been able to. More and more frustrated by the minute, she had finally had an idea to help her. In hard times like this, there was only one thing she could do.

"What color, McGee?" Abby asked, brows furrowed in a very serious (and un-Abby like) expression.

"Huh?" McGee muttered distractedly. The fact that Abby had left the lab and come to see him, rather than just calling him down should have stirred his interest, but he was, after all, McGee. Which is to say, clueless.

Abby, frustrated, whipped Tony's chair around so that it faced McGee's desk, sat in it, and let her bare feet land with a loud thud on the top of McGee's desk. That finally caught his attention. He looked at Abby's face, and then at her toes. And his gaze stayed on her toes.

I think I just developed a foot fetish, McGee thought to himself, staring at her toes. Every nail was painted a different color. There was black, cherry red, taxi yellow, orange, gold, silver, purple, "Arctic Blue", iridescent, and even bubble-gum pink. "What?" McGee managed to stammer.

"I have to paint my fingernails, and I couldn't decide which color. So, I painted every toenail a different color to help me choose! Now, which color, McGee?" she asked.

Disturbingly, McGee wasn't surprised at this at all. It wasn't the weirdest thing that Abby had ever done, after all. "Couldn't you ask Ziva? Or Tony? How about Gibbs?"

"Ask Ziva about nail polish, McGee? You've got to be kidding. Tony would say red or pink. And Gibbs? C'mon, McGee, you've got to help me!"

McGee paused for a minute, sitting back in his chair. "Fine, I like the orange one," he finally answered.

"Ewww, orange?" Abby made a face. I'll do the purple. Thanks for your help, McGee!" Abby yelled over her shoulder as she was bouncing towards the elevator to go to her lab.

"Glad to be of service," McGee muttered to himself, just shaking his head.
