Destroy All Monsters
A long time ago, they threw all of their reason into a fire. They threw away their conscience. Their souls. All in that terrible moment.
"Sir! Sonar is picking something up-Oh God! It's him!"
And they had the audacity to act surprised when the fire they started began to burn them in turn.
"Scramble all units! Don't let him reach the city!"
Consequences are a concept they don't comprehend until it's too late.
"The Golden Gate Bridge has collapsed! Ar-Are you getting this on camera Tom?"
They respond to the slightest injury, the smallest insult, with a thousand times more force and cruelty.
"As a scientist, I find your theories to be, bluntly, ridiculous, Mr. Yamane. Godzilla is a simple creature, no more intelligent then a parrot."
The idea of an enemy that cannot fight back makes them happy in ways that nothing else can.
"The idea that he is self aware, much less deliberately attacking cities out of a desire for revenge and not for territory, is completely preposterous."
The few good things they produce are rapidly treated with hate and contempt by the rest of them.
"General, there are buses that haven't evacuated the city, we need to-"
"I don't care if a few dozen unlucky bastards didn't get to the shelters! Commence bombardment!"
If they have a choice between survival or riches, they will choose the latter almost every time.
"Alright, Tony get your bat! Everyone's distracted with the big lizard, let's smash those windows and get inside the store while the owner's away!"
Perhaps they really do need a God to punish them.
"Entire platoon destroyed-"
"How the hell is it doing this, it's just an animal-"
Sometimes, when I look over the ashes, the fires I create, I hesitate. Then I remember what they did, and I know I can't stop.
"Atomic Breath charging-
"Projected targe-He's aiming at the base!"
"How the hell does he know where we are-"
"Brace for impact-"
I won't stop.
"Oh God everything's burning we're in hell we're in hell-"
"If you fucks had just followed orders, none of this would have happened-"
An earthshaking roar silenced the voices.
Then, in the dust and smoke, there is a shaft of light.
I will never stop punishing them. Not until every last one of them is gone.
Not until I destroy all monsters.
