"Mom!"
"What?" Happy called to her 7 year old daughter. Happy was under Paige's car fixing the leaky gas pipe.
"I can't find my book. Kenny took it!"
"You have any proof?"
"...wwweellll…. no but Emily is to young and nobody else would take my psych book"
"I can think of one…" Happy pushes herself from under car and gets to her feet. Gracie always blamed her 5 year old brother. Happy and Toby wanted them to be friends. Gracie and Kenney were planned and baby Gracie was their oops baby.
She walks over to Toby. He's on the couch ready a book to their youngest, Emily. She was laying on her father's chest, gnawing at the collar of Toby's shirt. Gracie did the same thing when she was a baby.
"Hey, Hubby" Happy says quietly, walking up to the couch.
"Hey Em look it's mommy."
"Mommy is helping Gracie find her book." Happy says picking her 4 month old baby up into her arms. "Does Daddy know where Gracie's book might be?"
"My desk, I think Kenny found it when she left it in the car."
"Good. Thanks Tobes." Happy kisses Emily and hands her back to Toby.
A loud slap and a cry comes from the back of the garage. Everyone knows what happened. It's not the first time this has happened in the last couple of years. Kenny came in crying for Happy.
"Mommy!" Kenny and Gracie screamed. Both had tears in their eyes.
"She hit me!" Kenny cried.
"He bit me!" Gracie cried.
Toby stood from the couch and held Emily against his shoulder. Both of the three genius' parents were not happy with their kids wrong doings.
"Gracie why would slap your brother?"
"He took my book!"
"No I did not!"
"Enough!" Toby raises his voice.
"She hit me so I bit her."
"Okay both of you need to stop." Happy said sternly.
"Kenny saw that you left your book in the car so he put it on my desk. Apologize to your brother, right now, Gracie." Toby said sternly.
"I'm sorry you can't communicate."
The fight went on and Happy and Toby made them sit on opposite sides of the garage. Emily was good at feeling tension and negative feelings. She'd been crying since Toby raised his voice. Happy took her baby from her husband and rocked in a gentle sway to calm Emily. She cried and the team kept working after Kenny and Gracie got punished.
Happy let out a deep breath. Toby turned to her and kissed her cheek. "Parenthood is not always fun, sugarplum."
