Why, Thane?
How could you do this to me?
You promised me you would fight this. You promised me you would fight for us. You promised me you would stay by my side until the fight was over, and we had either won or were left trampled in the dust. Well, the fight is not over, but you've left me anyway.
Do you think it's better this way? Do you think it will be any easier out there without you by my side? Do you think pushing me away, throwing away everything we were together, is really the best option for us both?
Or are you still trying to protect me, even if it's only from bad memories? You always have before, whether it was from a stray bullet or even my own mind. Are you still doing it? You have to be, because the alternative is something I can't even consider.
Or… was it really my incarceration? You have to know that I didn't go willingly, whatever I told Hackett! Why would I, when I had you waiting for me? When we had so little time left, why would I jeopardize it any more than it already had to be?
You have to be here. I get that. I understand. I still think that Chakwas could take care of you, but if you feel that you need to be here, to be with your son, I can respect that. But, damn it, Thane, why does that mean you have to push me away? You are the only thing that keeps me going. The thought of you, that you were out there, somewhere in the vastness of space, was the only thing that got me through that debacle of a trial and my imprisonment. You said you wrote to me. Well, I wrote to you too. Every day. If I couldn't see you, or hold you, at least I could write to you. Though, I have to think that you didn't get them either, or we wouldn't be here, our relationship in tatters, and you sitting there, calmly looking in my eyes, telling me that what we had was ultimately worth nothing.
Do you know what was in those letters? Everything! Everything I felt during our fight against the Collectors, how confused you made me when we first met. How… how I fell in love with you, a strong, kind-hearted man, the first man I had ever met who wasn't star struck by the legend of Commander Shepard. You turned my world upside down, sent me spinning, and then picked me up and set me right again, but you took half my soul with you.
Please, don't do this. Don't throw us away. I can't do this without you, not anymore. Everyone else may rely on me, but I rely on you, on your words of wisdom whispered to me in the dead of night, on your rifle at my back, on you in my heart.
Please, I've never begged before, but I'm begging now. Don't abandon us. No matter what happens, we can make it work. Please just say you'll try!
I love you, Thane, with all my heart.
