Reflections
A/N: A change is on the horizon.
Disclaimer: I don't name anybody. But I also don't own those who I imply. Any mistakes are mine.
A/N2: I forgot to dedicate my last story to her, I'm sorry! KeeganElizabeth, this one's for you. I hope you like it.
You stare him down like a suspect in interrogation.
"Did you know? You ask, looking deep into his eyes. "Did you know when oceans met sand?* Did you know on that very first day?"
He seems troubled, and you decide to simplify.
"Did you know when she came to you?"
That pressed a button. You can see his defenses rising, ready to blurt out an excuse-- any excuse.
You hold up your hand. "No excuses. Did you know?"
You can see the anger quickly subside. He looks defeated.
"Did you know when she stayed? Or when she poured her heart out to you? Did you know then?"
You stop to take a breath. You're getting frustrated, and by the looks of it, so is he. You take a moment to study his face.
He says nothing.
If the bags beneath his eyes are any indication, he hasn't had a peaceful night's sleep in a long time.
You know the feeling.
Squinting, you prepare for another round. Time to press on.
"You do know that things have to change?"
His head bows and you can no longer see his eyes. When he looks up you can see that something has changed. Something in his eyes.
Wait—he's....he's not....?
Yes, the man is crying.
Walls are crumbling. This is uncharted territory.
"Yes, I do know that things must change. It may have taken me a while to understand that, but I know that now." " I know," you say, rubbing the yet unshed tears from your eyes.
With determination you turn away from your reflection and walk out of the bathroom.
Things are going to change now.
For the better.
Fin.
*Note: this phrase is meant to symbolize the whole 'when their eyes first met' thing. Oceans, his eyes; sand, hers... I thought it was poetic.
