This was a writing prompt that I actually had a lot of fun responding to! I added a little bit to the original.
Ten Things I Should Know By Now:
1. Pain is the only thing that will help (he beats the bathroom counter-he beats himself)
2. Even if you change your face, your inside will still be pathetic (he smiles and it looks real, almost genuine, like magic)
3. No matter what you do, she will never love you (he's working at it)
4. Even if she could love you, she wouldn't, for you are a monster (he's working at it)
5. Your eyes will show who you truly are (they're red and they're ugly. even though heroes are red he knows he is not a hero)
6. People this young should not hurt this much (sixteen is too young)
7. Only the darkness will comfort you (he can't tell the others, he just can't)
8. Fighting back only leads to trouble (like he could do anything to a grown man, his father, in the first place)
9. You're too young to be all on your own, and too old for others to take pity on you (sixteen is too old)
10. When the lies have consumed you, the truth will never be clear again
