Two months after Lucas died Vic discovered she was pregnant. She hadn't told anyone yet. She couldn't find the words. It was all fine until they were doing chores and washing the ladder truck when she fell from the top of the cab that there was a problem.
"Vic!" Travis yelled and ran over to her. He was the only one who saw.
"Holy shit. Did she fall?" Andy asked as she ran to the aid car and grabbed the medical bags.
"Yeah. She slipped." Travis said as they checked her over and Maya and Miller came over with the neck brace and the stretcher. They strapped her in and moved her onto the gurney before putting her into the aid car. Travis and Andy sat in the back with her while Maya and Dean were upfront. Sullivan called Grey Sloan as he sped into the hospital with Warren. Warren was texting Miranda and Gibson had dispatch take them off rotation while he locked the station down to protect their stuff from being stolen and sped off in his car to join them.
"She definitely got a concussion." Travis said as he finished the neuro check. Andy lifted her shirt to check for internal injuries and they spotted the barely-there baby bump.
"Did you know?" She asked quietly.
"No. She wouldn't have been up there if I had." He replied.
"What's going on back there?" Miller asked, concerned about the whispering.
"It appears as if Hughes is pregnant." Andy replied and Maya pushed the gas harder. They arrived in record time. Miranda was there to receive Vic in the ambulance bay.
"Dr. Bailey, it appears she may be pregnant, none of us can confirm." Andy said as they rushed off and she nodded. She ran an ultrasound and did indeed find her to be about nine weeks pregnant. When she went out to update them, she had to sit down herself. That was a first for the great Dr. Bailey.
"She is about nine weeks pregnant. It looks like the baby is fine. Her appendix and her spleen are bleeding too much, we have to go in and take them out. She has a severe concussion but no bleeds in her brain and most of her ribs are bruised if not fractured. This is going to be a brutal recovery for her, especially since she's still grieving." Miranda said.
"I'm too close to this so I handed her over to Dr. Meredith Grey, she's our head of general surgery." She added. Travis was immediately up and pacing the room. He knew this was bad and he was terrified of losing the one person who meant as much to him as Michael had. He couldn't lose her too.
Two hours later Dr. Grey gave them the news. She was alive, she was stable, and the baby was absolutely fine. She showed them to her room and checked her vitals before slipping out. Another hour later and Vic was waking up. She squeezed Travis' hand that was already holding her's.
"Trav…" She whispered; her voice raspy.
"Hey you. Welcome back." He smiled softly.
"Water please." She replied and he obliged. She sipped it slowly.
"I was going to tell you guys about the baby after shift today." She said as she noticed the look on his face. The rest of them had now gathered near her bedside.
"It's okay. The baby's fine." Maya added as she watched Vic's hand go to her bump. She nodded and let her tears of relief fall. The baby was all she had left of him.
"How are you feeling, Vic?" Miller asked as he pushed her curls back from her face.
"Okay, my head's killing me but I'm just a little sore otherwise." She replied.
"You have a pretty bad concussion; your ribcage is all bruised up, a couple are broken, and you had to have an emergency appendectomy and splenectomy." Ben supplied. She nodded again before drifting off to sleep.
