The girls are asleep in their beds as the morning sun slowly rises, just barley hitting the edge of their pillow's. Everything is very still this morning, there is no wind blowing the trees, the only sound is coming from the birds singing, and if you listen ever so closely you can hear footsteps tiptoeing up the stairs. The door to the girl's room is slowly creaked open and a shadow stands in the doorway, unmoving for a bit. From the darkness of the hallway one can hear the figure say "GOOD MORNING" in a very loud and booming voice. The girls startle awake and turn to see their father. He moves to each of their beds and gently kisses each of their foreheads saying, as he does every morning, "good morning my princess." He tells them to "wash up and prepare for the adventure ahead." The girl's look at each other with wide eyes and a grin plastered on their faces, "today is the day" one of them says as they race to get ready. Once the girl's are ready they follow their noses to where their mother has prepared breakfast. As the girl's eat, they eagerly explain the plan's they have for the day with their father. He did not have to go into work, a rare occurrence, so the girl's had this day planned perfectly so it would be the best day they could imagine with him. They would begin by going into the woods to play hide and seek. They loved how every time their father found them he would get really excited, hug them and spin them around until they were dizzy. In the woods, there was no one else that could distract their father from them, they had his undivided attention and they loved it. Next up their mother would have lunch prepared and after, they could go into the girl's room to play dress up. Their favorite thing to dress up as were princess' and their father would be the prince. This particular time they played, their father said to them "someday you will be a real princess'," their eyes got wide and as they looked back at each other they said "how do you know?" Their father then put a finger to his lips and say a fairy told him, the girls squealed with excitement as their father promised them that someday it will come true. After dress up would be chores. Even with their dad home, they knew they could not get out of their daily duties. These included laundry, gardening, fetching water from the stream and helping their mother cook dinner. The girls never really knew what their father did during this time. Even when he had work, he was always home by dinner and never earlier even though he got off work at three. On this particular day he said he was going to town to pick up some things, but came back for dinner empty handed. He always showered before dinner and their mother always gave him a 'look' when he came back down. It was the same look she gave the girl's when she knew they were lying about doing some of their chores. The girl's would end their day with their father playing cards while their mother cleaned up the dinner mess. The girl's always had a warm glass of milk by their side so once their game was done they would drift swiftly to sleep. Their father would kiss them goodnight and say "until next time my princess'." The night routine, much like the morning routine, was something that never wavered, the girl's could always count on their father to wake them up and see them off to sleep.
One day while the girls were making supper with their mother, their father did not return home to wash up. Once supper was done the girls set the table and there was still no sign of him. They decided they would wait for him but after an hour their mother told them they could wait no longer, so they ate, washed up, and went to bed. The girls awoke the next morning on their own and at breakfast their father was still missing. This had the girl's worried, he had never been away this long before, "maybe something bad happened" they whispered amongst themselves. Just as they were about to ask their mother where their father was, he was outside. The girls ran out the door to him, hugging him and checking to ensure he was okay, they were so worried about their father they did not see that there was a lady standing behind him. Their father nudged them off and walked toward the woman and put an arm around her waist as he said "this is Nancy." Nancy smiled and said "how do you do," the girls were very confused when their mother came out and rushed them inside. She told them to go play in their room and to not come back outside. The girls ran up to their room, luckily they had a window that looked out onto the front of their house. They did not want to open it for fear of their mother noticing, but they could see everything. They saw the red tomato look on their mother's face as she yelled at their father and their father not wavering from Nancy's side. Then they saw him touch her stomach and their mother stopped yelling. The girls watch as their mother turned and walked back inside, silent as a lamb, but heard the slam of the front door. Their father walked up to the door looking as though he was saying something, he tried to get into the house but their mother locked the door. Eventually, he gave up, getting into the carriage with Nancy, they rode away. The girls went the rest of their days waking themselves up and putting themselves to bed.
Word spreads quickly in such a small town. One day the girls went to town with their mother for they needed a few things to make dinner that night. They used to love going into town to get food or things, they never had much money, but their mother would always let them get a chocolate bar at the end of the trip for helping out so much. However, this time when they went no one said hi to them, no one really acknowledged them unless it was to look at the mother in disgust and the girl's with eyes of pity. At the end, the girls asked their mother for chocolate and she said no, they began to ask why when she snapped at them and told them "there will be no more chocolate." At this moment in time their mother was not paying attention to where she was walking and she bumped into a man. She looked up getting ready to apologize when she saw beautiful blue eyes under short blond hair. She stared for a while until one of the girl's tugged at her dress and she stuttered "i…I…I'm so sorry for hit…ting you." The man replied and then turned to introduce a girl standing behind him, she was about the same age as the girl's and as they stared at her with wonder they heard their mother invite the man and his daughter to dinner.
