Max tiptoed down the cool, marble stairs towards the living room. She'd had yet another nightmare and was seeking out comfort in her favourite person in her whole world. Everything was so silent at night. Well, for Max, it always was. But, at night, it was better because no one was moving about, motioning at her or mouthing words at her. She was free to snuggle up with her daddy and sleep. She reached the bottom of the stairs and looked around the corner of the door. Her daddy was sat on the sofa on his own, looking out into the night through the window that covered a whole wall.

Max loved this room. She loved this room because she could see out into the dark night of the forest yet still be safe and warm in her mama's or daddy's arms. She loved watching the moon, especially when it was full and glowing. She was allowed to stay up later when it was a full moon because her parents knew how much she loved them.

Max stared at her daddy from the side, waiting for him to realise she was there.

Slowly, Emmett's head turned towards the door to see his little angel peeping from around the door.

In answer, Emmett opened his arms wide and Max ran into them, clinging to her daddy hard. He scooped her up and held her to his soft, warm chest. He ran his fingers though her soft, golden hair and rocked them ever so slightly.

It was moments like these that made him fall in love with his little angel all over again.
