A/N: This is a very short introduction to a re-make of my Liara and FemShep fanfiction. Takes place after the suicide mission, before the events of ME3. Chapter 2 will follow shortly!
"But, dammit, Shepard I am so close! This new lead-" From behind her desk, Liara's eyes displayed more emotion since June Shepard last met her on Illium. Liara's eyes met June's, the pleading expression meeting with a cold, impassive stance. With virtually everyone else, the red glow of June's eyes, even in a passing exchange would unnerve, if not frighten them. Liara was barely moved, so focused she was on her hunt for the Shadow Broker.
"Just think of how many new leads it's been, Liara," June's eyes narrowed to match her even tone. "I understand you had things going on, which is why I did not press you earlier. What's one week, fuck, one day off of this whole Information Broker thing, anyway?" June reached for her Asari's hands, now curled with frustration. Her glowing eyes peered into Liara's icy, deadened ones, a look of expectancy.
"It's been two years, you've been hunting. A few days with me won't impact your progress that much, if at all. I was worth enough to you to for you to chase my corpse through Omega and beyond, let me be worth it enough to take a break from all of this. I miss you, Liara," June's face reddened slightly at the admission.
Silence followed, stretching out into several moments. Neither woman looked at one another, choosing rather to stare at their entwined hands.
Defeated, Liara knew she couldn't justify another excuse. June had shot holes through each reason, each defense for doing what she did. Facing the loss of a few days stirred a deep fear within her. However, she gave in to June's insistence.
June sent Miranda and Garrus back to the ship. She waited at a small cafe in a remote location on the south side of Illium. Liara's condition of discretion was one she was more than willing to oblige. For a moment, June thought she would never get through. The carefully constructed wall protecting her lover, kept June out as well.
The hum of traffic on Illium never waned, though it was getting late. Liara arrived at the cafe, in a plain uniform, similar to the scientist jumpsuit she used to wear. She motioned to June with two fingers, beckoning her to follow. June rose out of the booth, abandoning her tea, following Liara to a vehicle parked outside. The two women entered the vehicle, which was driven by another Asari.
The urge to embrace Liara came upon June so suddenly, she abandoned all reserve, grabbing for her in the back seat. Liara, being caught off guard, said nothing, momentarily allowing herself to get lost in the familiar warmth. June ran her hands along Liara's back, and leaned in to kiss her. The vehicle moved through the streets, navigating its way towards the docking bay the Normandy relocated to a few hours earlier.
As they reached their destination, the two broke apart, slightly breathless. June quickly smoothed her hair, before exiting the vehicle after Liara.
On board the Normandy, the two walked through CIC towards the elevator. Kelly opened her mouth to say something, but was quickly silenced by a wave of June's hand. The elevator doors barely closed before they were wrapped up in each other's embrace again.
