He Would Never Return Her Feelings
Basically tells the story of Tonks' desire.
For Ibergol on DeviantART because she makes such good drawings of Tonks

Tonks sat out on the porch of the Burrow. The talk with Molly about the battle at the Ministry hadn't made anything better. Now everyone thought she was upset because she had lost Sirius. Tears fell down her cheeks as she thought about the real reason.
No one was dead to her; it was because she had almost lost someone. Someone who wouldn't cry that he had almost lost her to curses and jinxes. Then again they hadn't even been together. He would never return her feelings. When she told him what she felt he just shook his head and told her they weren't right. He was too old. As if she cared about age.
Tonks tried wiping her eyes but ended up getting a fresher wave of tears falling. She hadn't even bothered to put on her regular punkish make-up. She was crying so much these days it would just be washed away. She stared at her refection in the little pool of sadness she had wept on the porch.
An unrecognizable figure stared back at her. Straight mouse brown hair instead of bubblegum pink spikes. Tear stained cheeks and a mournful downcast look instead of a rosy slightly cheeky smile. She wore no band outfit, but an old brown coat that once belonging to her Aunt Narcissa, when she was a teenager. Her eyes had a look in them that said all hope was lost. This was not the Tonks she remembered. This was the sad, mournful, loner girl from her first year in Hufflepuff, when she was scared no one would like her and everyone would hurt her for being a Metamorphagus.
She turned away from the sad stranger and looked over the garden and stood up. She wouldn't stay and ruin everyone's summer. Tonks walked out of the garden and aparated to London. She walked for a little while and stared at the small block of flats invisible to muggles. Moody and many other of the Order lived around here. She walked to the buzzer and buzzed for Emmeline Vane, her fellow Order Member and old school friend from Hogwarts.
Emmeline came to the door and beckoned Tonks in.
"I heard about what happened to Sirius, I'm sorry." Said Emmeline soothingly as she gave Tonks a cup of tea in her apartment.
"It's not Sirius, why does everyone assume I'm down because of a cousin I've hardly ever met?" Tonks whispered sadly, "It's because I almost lost Him." Tonks burst into another set of tears.
"Who?" asked Emmeline.
"Him." Stated Tonks and wordlessly waved her wand. A silver form jumped from her wand and pawed around the room. The werewolf with a scar on it's snout, exactly like the scar on another Order member's nose, sniffed the air and ran through the wall and into other rooms.
"Really? Him Tonks?" asked Emmeline.
"Yes, I love him." Tonks whispered, "But he will never love me back. He told me he's too old, poor and dangerous. I told him I don't care, but he still won't listen. Can't he just accept that he's the only one I could ever love? He keeps turning me away." She hid her face in her hands and sobs leaked through her hands.
"There, there." Emmeline said as she patted Tonks' shoulder.
And three floors down, a silver werewolf burst through the wall of the only good Marauder still alive and said in Tonks' voice, "Why won't you love me Remus?"
It faded as Remus whispered to it, "I do, but I don't want you to get hurt."

Remus doesn't want to injure Tonks if she's near when he transforms into a werewolf. He does love her but he thinks he deserves better than a poor, older werewolf. But in the end they do get together and love conquers all as they die side by side, together forever.
-sniff- It's so beautiful, -sniff-
