Disclaimer: I do not own the Amazing Spiderman. But if I did I would not kill of Gwen Stacy. I have bad grammar, so excuse the bad grammar? Kind of new at this so apologies.
And there she was standing there. It was inevitable but Peter tried to stay as far as possible but he knew this moment would have to come. He goes to the door and hesitates. He sees her standing there, her back angled away from him, and there's rain pouring everywhere. So much rain. And he can't look at her, not really. He doesn't want to see the pain that will be so evident in her blue eyes. But he has to. He has to, he thinks as he opens the door. And she turns around. And there's an earth shattering silence falling with the raindrops. And so Peter tries not to stare but he can't. She looks towards him, her eyes swollen and wet with rain and tears. And she's talking, her voice. He wants to go nearer. He wants to go closer. He wants a snapshot of this moment no matter how heart-breaking it was. And his hand is close to her cheek, barely stroking it, but he feels shivers down his back and he tells himself its just the rain. And then the inevitable.
She's talking about the funeral, about her dad, about Captain Stacy, about Flash, about him not being there at the funeral and how much it hurt and he could tell she just wanted it to stop hurting. And he loses the hope and fluttering feel of wistful love from his hands. Because he let's it go to drift off in the wind and fly away. Because he has to. He promised, a dying promise, to Captain Stacy that he would keep away from Gwen. But, and now he's contradicting himself all over again, she's standing in front of her crying. Barely but so visible. He hears her heavy breathing so often filled with stars and whispers and love. But now it's collapsed with anger and hurt and stars that scarcely shimmer. All because of him. And before he can count the beautiful, painful tear drops disappearing down her face, she pulls away. She opens her umbrella and walks down the stairs. Each thud and echo of being lost and found and lost again. He stands there, not bothering to walk back inside. He can't really. But really he's standing there because this might be the last time he could look at Gwen. Really look at her and see what he's done to this beautiful, beautiful girl. And there's a pounding of rain in his head and it doesn't seem so sweet and pitiful anymore. It's angry, weeping, hurting as it pounds against the roof relentlessly. A tsunami of his heart. He takes a deep breath, moving towards the door, when she turns around. And he sees her tears are barely there, mixing with the rain. But he sees the pain in her eyes, her defiance, her hurt, her anger. He sees Gwendolyn Stacy. But he also sees Captain Stacy's dying breath, its tremors cracks and shattering at Peter. Promises are hard to keep. Secrets have a cost they were just given away for free.
"He made you promise, didn't he?" She asks, her soft hair whipping in the wind (such a stark contrast that defines Gwen Stacy that he nearly smiles but not really) and flying about in the rainy wind.
And he hesitates for too long. He knew that she'd figure it out. But he didn't know what to say, so he just nodded. Because while he was Spiderman, he was still a coward. Still as flawed as humanity is. And she turns, as if accepting, and walks away in the downpour as the rain shatters the remainders of Peter Parker's heart.
