Inu Yasha looked deep into Kagome's brown eyes and saw an undying love for him. His heart warmed. The fact that someone could love a damaged half- demon gave him a feeling that made him happy beyond all imagine. The feeling for this human was mutual. He loved this human from another time with all his heart. This love went far beyond anything he had felt for Kikyo.

This stopped him. He pulled away from Kagome. She asked why and he saw worry fill her eyes. All of a sudden, he could not take being around her. With his demon speed he sped away from Kagome. A few miles away he jumped onto a branch of a tree and stared at the moon.

How could he love Kagome completely when being with her almost always brought thoughts of Kikyo to mind. Kikyo, the woman he had loved. Kikyo, the woman who was tricked by Naraku into betraying him. The woman who came back from the dead hating him, who now wanted him to join her in the land of the dead.

It makes sense that he would fall for Kagome. She was Kikyo's reincarnation. Although the two women were completely different, at times, he could swear that it was Kikyo looking at him through Kagome's eyes. This made him think, why did he feel like he did for Kagome. Was it for her tenderness? Was it for her determination or stubborness? Or was it because it was his second chance with Kikyo?

Sighing he looked to the stars for answers. They twinkled back at him but gave him none.

It wasn't fair to lead Kagome on if he wasn't in love with her. But was he? Did Kikyo only pop into his head because they look alike?

He growled and lept down from the tree. He went back to the campsite but stayed back in the shadows. Kagome was crying into Sango's shoulder. Shippo was trying to comfort her as best as a child can. It felt like a vise was around Inu Yasha's heart. He hated to see her in pain, and it killed him to know that he was the cause.

He turned to leave again. No answers had come to him this night. It would be best to keep his distance, to let Kagome cry herself out. Maybe in the morning things would seem better. Maybe he would have a better idea of where he was with Kagome. Maybe then he could say what he wanted to with a clear conscience. Maybe he could tell her that he loved her, and mean that he loves her and no one else.
