For Twinchester Angel

Prompt: "...Magnets having no choice but to cling to each other"

It was a matter of physics that when a North pole and a South pole were in the same vicinity they had no choice but to spiral towards each other; clinking together and holding on for dear life.

It was a good metaphor for the Winchester brothers – they couldn't have been further apart, at least not in the way they acted; the way they thought.

The most obvious example was that Dean was rooting for Team Angel, whereas Sam was tucked securely in Lucifer's back pocket.

Dean was metaphorically on top of the world, and Sam was buried beneath it.

Actually, come to think of it, it was a pretty accurate description as well – Dean was the top and Sam was the bottom.

They were magnets pulled irreversibly together with a single sudden snap every time they thought they were free of each other.

In those quiet, isolated moments, with no one and nothing to stand between them, they would find themselves drawn to one another: skin on skin, eyes wide and mouths open, seeking purchase.

That desperate reliance for one to support the other – to hold them tight – through the demons, through the battles, even through the heartaches.

Two ships in a storm.

And as Dean pressed down further into Sam, and Sam arched up towards him, they knew it was out of their control.

Opposites attract: it was basic physics after all.
