This story takes place when the two of them first meet, when they were eight or something… I thought of the title after writing the story (for once :))!Anyway, it's cute, it's a few months old, and I've been thinking about writing something cute for a while, so… It's cute. Stein's POV.
Disclaimer: I do not own Stein, Marie, or the rest of Soul Eater; I do own the blue jay.
I want to work. I need to work. Nothing else is as important as dissection.
Today, I have a blue jay that was all-too unlucky to fall into one of the traps I set in the woods. So I'll dissect it, show that this was its fatal mistake.
Well, maybe not fatal. Some subjects survive my experiments, though they're not better off than before. They're all either hideously disfigured or severely mentally handicapped (as is my single human experimental subject; the flirtatious red-head wasn't very bright in the first place…).
I ready my scalpel over the heart of the small bird. Time to start the show where I'm the only audience member, and I'll give it flying reviews.
"Hello. What are you doing to that bird?"
Looking up, I see one clueless eye and a black eye patch in the place of the other. I start to wonder what happened to it. Did someone stab it out?
"I'm going to perform an experiment on this bird. Now if you excuse me, it's time for me to rip out its small red heart."
"Will it live?" Her single eye is full of wonder and concern. How can her one eye have more emotion than my two ever will ever have?
"It matters if it's a strong fighter," I explain to her, my smile cold and sadistic as I bring the medical life closer to its feathered body.
"Oh." She looks sad, like she actual knew the bird before I caught it and she had cared for it. This girl is so lucky… She can actually feel the emotion of love.
"Grr! I can't concentrate because of you!" I shout, scaring her. "Who do you think you are to stop my experiment?"
She smiles, warmer than the heat of the sun. "My name is Marie Mjolnir. Nice to meet you."
I stare at her in shock. She's completely unaware how lucky she is to have that emotion!
"Go away, you bitch! I need to finish dissecting this bird!" I hold the scalpel at the level of her neck and try to look as menacing as possible. She stays completely calm and continues her warm smile.
"You just need some love, Stein."
"What? How do you know my name? Who do you think you are? Where did you come from? When did you come here, and why?" I shout at her, my scalpel beginning to close the space to her neck.
"Don't worry. It's going to be okay." She hugs me, her purity surrounding her body. At first I struggle and scream, but as the embrace continues, I slowly regain control and calmness.
"Are you okay now?" she asks, her concern for me overtaking that for the bird.
"Yes. Perfect." I nod to her. This time as I watch her warm smile, I begin to feel a new emotion. A strong emotion. An emotion that takes care of you if you take care of it.
"Come on. Let's let the bird go." She holds my hand, the emotion deepens even farther. I fidget, but stand my ground as we remove the clips from the blue jay's wings and let it fly off into the clear, blue sky. "See?" she asks, smiling. "Everything's all right."
I nod and watch the bird slowly disappear over the horizon.
I finally typed up this story X3! When I first wrote it out, it didn't actually end, but now… It's satisfying. Please review!
