No such thing as try.

Summary – A short little Abby\Gallant friendship story that takes place during "Where there's smoke"

"Going to Iraq?" I ask catching his rebound ball and throwing it back
to him. "Yea, the army called me." He responds throwing the basketball
into the hoop, he misses.
"Just like that? They can do that?" He nods,
"They put me through school, I owe them."
"and you have to go?" He nods again.
"I've got at least a year."
"What about your residency?"
"Finishing in Texas."
"When do you leave?"
"Tomorrow morning." Now its my turn to nod.
"Abby?" he asks.
"Yea?"
"Promise me something?"
"What?"
"When I come back, you'll be a great doctor." I frown thinking back to
my board results but look up at him and smile,
"I promise, on one condition."
"What?"
"You promise me something, promise me you'll come back, come back
safe." He smiles,
"I'll try." I look at him,
"a good friend once told me there is no try, only do and don't do,
promise me?" He nods,
"I promise." I give him a hug,
"Be safe Michael."
"Do me a favor?"
"Sure"
"Tell Dr.Carter thanks, and goodbye."
"Will do." He walks off leaving me there with the basketball still in
my hands. "Who told you that?" a voice asks from behind me.
"Eves dropping? I ask.
"Yup, I was actually going to ask you for a ride home." I smile,
"Not a problem." We start to walk away,
"Abby?"
"What?"
"That ball?" I laugh,
"oh." I turn around and shoot the ball, it goes in.
"Nice shot."
"Thanks." We continue our walk to my car,
"So, who told you that?" I smile and open the car door for Susan.
"Its from star wars, Carters a big fan."
