That first day, the one where I saw her walking down Leyland street in Popular, in that
Pink uniform- the one that hugged her in the most beautiful way. Her hair was blowing around
just enough to aggravate her, but she looked adorable fiddling with it. She had to be mine;
no question about it, I just knew right then right there. The way she walked, talked and even giggled drove me out of my mind in love. I had to see the girl of my dreams, I didn't even know what her name was. I could see us with a family, happy as ever and yet she hadn't even looked at me yet. It was an act of love at first sight. Sure I had other girlfriends but none made me feel like she did. She made me scuff my shoes on the pavement, and constantly comb down my hair. I didn't know someone could hypnotize you like that.
In Nonnatus that first day I rang the bell and was greeted with a mighty ''What Ho! Come right in Constable, Before you turn into an icicle!'' Her voice radiated through my bones all throughout the day and prevented me from sleeping that night too.
When we would sit in the corner booth at the diner away from everyone else, she had this cute little habit of fidgeting with my buttons on my shirt. I made sure to stop by Nonnatus at least once a day; wouldn't want the girls and sisters unsafe. With Camilla
living with the nuns I knew that I had to meet her- the right way. So that evening for tea
Sister Julianne introduced me to her, I could feel my skin burning. I sat there like a fool
nodding from lack of words. The days went on and I gained confidence and talked to her.
Weeks went by watching her learn to ride that poor, poor bicycle. I still wouldn't change
that little scar on my arm that needed stitches when she ran me over with that bike.
Thank God above for Sister Evangelina, without her intervening I couldn't call her mine.
That day that I sat on the bench with her stroking her beautiful hair, was the first time I
kissed her too! My heart broke when she said no to my proposal; I almost quit there.
She is my everything, from first look to last she always will be.
Our children look up to her as mummy, and she is my darling Camilla.
No matter how many doe eyed looks she gives me when she wants something, or little
kisses to tease me through the day, I will always love her. I secretly love when she
snuggles in for the night ,sticks her cold toes on me and puts her icy fingers along the
rim of my sleep trousers! It sends a terrifying chill down my spine but at least I could give her my warmth. It's the little things in life that make it all worth wild. Because
I love my dear wife, Camilla Fortescue-Cholmeley-Browne-Noakes.
