"Well, don't you look gorgeous." Patch complimented me as I neared him wearing the beautiful red dress he'd bought me early this week. Patch wrapped his arm around my waist, holding me closer to him, and gave me a quick kiss. "As always." He said, grinning.
"Why, thank you." I said smiling up at him. "You look very handsome yourself."
"Come." Patch said, extending his hand. "Let's go to a more private place." I took the invitation, placing my hand on his. My mom had decided to throw a Christmas party, so the farmhouse was crowded with friends and family chattering, hugging and catching up. I was more than happy to escape the noise for a few moments, but I couldn't help the small laugh that escaped my mouth as a memory crossed my mind.
"You do remember what happened the last time we threw a party and you took me to "a more private place", right?" I said, replaying the moment when my mom caught me kissing Patch and kicked him out of the house in her rage. "She must have forgotten, since she let you come tonight." I laughed.
"I think she's starting to like me." He said, still leading me away from the crowd.
"I hope so." As I spoke those words something caught my eye in the place Patch was leading me to. I detached my hand from his and walked up to the window where the mistletoe was hanging. Rolling my eyes, I pulled the plant down from the window frame. Patch had been doing this for the past few days, hanging mistletoe around both the farmhouse and his house, expecting kisses. Sure, I wanted to kiss my boyfriend but I didn't want to give in to the "tradition". Besides, I liked annoying Patch, he looked adorable.
"Again?" He asked, his face falling slightly. "Don't you want to kiss me?" A trace of humor laced his voice. He knew I couldn't resist him.
"I'll kiss you if you stop hanging mistletoe everywhere." I suggested.
"One day I'm gonna catch you." He said, a smirking playing in his lips.
"Oh, you wish." I matched his smirk.
In that exact moment snow started falling slowly from the sky, creating a small layer of snow in the yard. "Look! It's snowing!" I said with excitement. "Let's go outside." I took Patch's hand and led the way.
Once we got to the yard I was mesmerized by the snowflakes all around me, catching a few in my hand. Patch must have sensed me shudder cause he shrugged off his jacket and draped it over my shoulders. "Thank you." I said and kissed him, savouring the feel of Patch's lips on mine.
Once we broke the kiss I glanced upwards and rolled my eyes. Patch followed my gaze. "I swear that one was not me." He insisted, looking at the mistletoe hanging on the tree branch. "But I did say I would catch you." I smiled, shaking my head fondly and reconnected our lips.
