Aftermath
After Voldemort finally fell and Luna had used her eyes too see what was truly there to distract the public, she found herself passing through the Great Hall passing by students, families, and alumnus that had helped in the downfall. Yes, so the house elves had sent up a delectable treat on the tables, she didn't stay to eat it. She wasn't much hungry after the three chocolate frogs she had snacked before leaving the Room of Requirement.
The Ravenclaw sixth year paused as she came upon a family that weren't being consoled by anyone else, just the three of them trying to help one another out after this ordeal. She watched as all of their platinum blonde hair moved around their heads when they snapped their heads in her direction. "Looney Lovegood." The youngest, the son, said as she stood there watching them with her large eyes.
Blinking, Luna's eyes focused upon them and her lips turned upwards. "Draco Malfoy." She took a step towards the family and her mess of hair fell over her shoulders from the messy bun she had erected without a tie.
He stood from his spot on the steps as she took another step towards his family. "Luna Lovegood." He reached in his pocket to look for the wand he knew wasn't there, for the wand that was currently in Harry Potter's hand.
"You've been gone all year." Her lips twitched up into a smile as she looked over his shoulders to his mother and father who were in each other's arms.
His hands stopped in his pants pockets, the futile search for the wand forgotten as he looked down at the Ravenclaw standing before him. "I wanted to come back so bad." His voice was choked and the left side of his mouth twitched as Luna looked back up at him, her silver eyes meeting his. "I messed so many things up."
She breached the rest of the gap as she put her hand on his shoulder. "It was a mean to this end, Draco."
"It isn't an excuse." He looked down at the marble floor and heaved, trying to keep the tears at bay.
Luna touched his chin with a long finger and looked him square in the eye, "Then stop making them."
His eyes searched hers and Luna wasn't completely sure what he was looking for, but she took another step closer to him and wrapped her arms around his shoulders. "It's over Draco, we just want to see you smile." She put her head on his shoulder and let the stray tear she had been holding in go. Draco's thumb caught the tear as he moved her head back but to look at him.
"You are.. you're.. Luna.." She could feel his chest heaving as he wrapped his arms tightly around her and buried his head into her hair.
