I just finished Outcast and I came up with this idea for a fanfic. Hope ya'll like it. Descriptions might be a little off, since I haven't read the first three in a while.

Disclaimer: I do not own Chronicles of Ancient Darkness. The series and its characters are owned by Michelle Paver.

This story is about Renn's long lost twin sister.

Twin of a Sister

Chapter One

Starling had to force herself to finish making her camp. She was exhausted from her many day walks to the coast. Her dark hair-which sported strange reddish tints-, fell in front of her face when she crawled into her shelter, and she lazily pushed it out of the way.

She rolled out her sleeping sack and crawled into it. Personally, she'd never gone to sleep so fast before. Her sleep was interrupted again by the dream. She'd had it so many times she was sure it was supposed to mean something.

She was walking along a beach. The sand seeped between her toes, for she was barefoot.

She turned toward the forest and could've sworn she saw someone move there.

Starling… The voice called to her. For some reason, it felt really familiar, yet she couldn't place its owner. She stood there and was sure that whoever was watching her was going to step out of the cover of the trees.

That's when she always woke. She looked outside and saw that there were still many hours till dawn. She groaned.

"You're a coward." She scolded herself. "That dream means something and you can't sleep any longer to find out what it means."

She sighed. For her whole life, she'd been alone, save for the forest and the animals. For some reason, it felt like it talked to her. Sometimes, she even caught herself talking back. She knew she had parents at one point, but any memories had been forgotten long ago. Since this particular dream started, she felt like it held a clue to her past.

Knowing she wouldn't get any more sleep, she stood and started disassembling her small shelter. Best to get an early start, she though ruefully.

Renn's POV

"Renn?" I felt someone prodding me, but rolled over, wanting to savor the last of my sleep, or any of it that I could salvage.

"Renn, come on. Get up." That's when I recognized the voice.

"What do you want Torak," she growled.

"Nothing, it's just that you're usually up before I am. You've slept in for the last moon; it seems like."

I sighed inwardly. I couldn't tell of these dreams until I was sure of what they meant. I just wish I could make out the girl on the coast line.
