In the silence of the night and by the dark of the hour, Derek Zia and Marco Ashkin crept through the gates of the city cemetery. Marco held the flashlight steady in his mouth as Derek slipped helped him slip the shovels between the decaying bars, as they had many times before. Hit the bars and the alarm was sure to go off and they'd be arrested on the spot, as learned many years ago.
The Mechanical Hound watched from her car. It had been the third Z run that night, but city cemetery held the jackpot for Graverobbing and she knew it. Senses heighted in the night, hair twirling as if bored by the job assigned, eyes steady on the road; occasionally flickering back to Tyler, cell-watch ready in case Ty, who waited from the trees watching for cars or guards, gave the signal. She would dial Derek and he would haul ass back over the fence and into the car.
Marco his assistant could fend for himself, but could in no way keep up with Derek.
Ty spoke into the headset which was wired to Marco, "Bird, tell Derek we have company,"
Just barely getting the second shovel through Derek heard the news. Ty gave Jade the "Victorians" signal and she dialed Derek. The Mechanical Hound felt adrenaline spike through her veins. Marco waited as Derek shifted the shovels into his right hand over to him. Derek clicked his headset "What J Dog," he got behind the wall inside the cemetery, panting slightly at the thought of having to rush this early into a run. Marco followed easily shimming through.
"Derek, Ty says Victorians are in sight. You need to get over pat the tree so that you can –" Derek interrupted her calmly, "J Dog, we can't abort. My deadline is tomorrow. Pull the car to the back entrance and turn off the engine." She wondered if it was true, he had been on two Z runs before this one, could he still not have enough? Her thoughts ceased questioning as she sputtered out: "I can hold tem off. I'll do as you said and give Ty a little lee way to get out of hearing distance." She clicked off her headset before she could hear him say all clear, excited to be able to prove herself to her friends.
Marco watched carefully as Derek gave him the signal to repeat the plan to Ty. Though everyones stomach twisted at the thought of The Hound fighting alone against a pack of Victorians. Derek grabbed his shovel and listened to Jade's car as he crossed the cemetery, he paused as he heard the engine go dead and the car door lock. Marco did the respect to do so as well, knowing they were both worried about her. Marco told Ty in a still tone, "I hope you've got an eye on her," The fog was unusually dense tonight and Derek wondered if he should wait for Marco before he starts digging. Marco held the flashlight steady as he hurried over to Derek.
Ty threw himself to the wall leading to the gate carelessly. Walking the wall towards The Hounds car, over it he sprung, out of hearing distance, sighing at the sight he was about to report, Ty climbed up the dead tree speaking into the headset he whispered cautiously, "Bird, tell Derek J Dog is in range of the Victorians," dripping with distilled calm.
