A Child
Prologue
"Haku can't stay with us." A blond hair man with blue eyes that have darkened over the years said.
His black hair companion looked at the boy sleeping in his lap. This boy, barely four-years-old with white-blond hair and crystal blue eyes, had brought light into a dark world. "No, he stays."
"He is a liability. Both of us are being hunted. Our enemies will exploit this weakness without mercy. You of all people should know this. Besides, it is not fair to him to be on the run all the time." The blond would have continued, but his companion is too stubborn to listen to reason.
"No! He is staying with us. If you don't like that, then leave." The black hair companion said slowly so the blond would understand clearly the message.
"I'll drop the issue for the moment. Let's get some sleep."
The black hair man woke up when the early afternoon sun hit his eyes. He searched for the familiar chakras. He found his blond companions, but...the boy was missing.
"Where is Haku?" He asked to his companion who was cooking food.
"I had one of my bunshins take him away. You can follow, but do you know what trail to follow? I sent bunshins in numerous directions. It is safer this way. I don't even know where he is going. I gave commands to find a village that is safe, with good people accepts the boy without question."
Silence. The small cam remained that way for a while. Both men watched each other carefully, but neither moved. Nothing short of a mass disaster would make them blink. When night fell, the black hair man spoke.
"I will kill you for this, Naruto."
"Sasuke, you will thank me later."
With that, they settled down to sleep with their back to each other.
