"Booth. Hannah called me and told me everything, I'm so sorry. You're a great guy, you deserve better than her. She broke her promise to me, not to break your heart." As much as she wanted to be happy that now her partner's window of opportunity had opened, her heart was breaking for his sadness.
"Bones, I-I just don't get it." His sadness quickly turned into anger and rage. "I mean now Hannah, and first Rebecca, and then…" He paused replaying the day Bones refused him in his head. He felt his heart sink.
"Me." She said, her voice shaky. She knew it was the biggest mistake of her life, the only thing she deeply regretted.
"Yeah…" He didn't know what else to say. An awkward silence was brought between them as their eyes met.
"Umm…yeah." Bones awkwardly stated, desperately trying to break the silence between them. She wanted to be with Booth more than anything in her life, but she knew it was the wrong time.
Booth was deep in thought he was here right after a breakup with the woman he thought he loved. The woman that he knows he belongs with, right in front of him. The only one here with him at his time of despair. Why would she come here, after all the pain of being with another woman he brought her?
"Um, Bones?" He said with a soft tone.
"What?"
"I'm sorry."
"Why would you be sorry? The woman you just proposed to refused you."
"Bones remember that day you told me you loved me? When we were in the car? And I said no for Hannah?
"Yes." She didn't want to speak. She was choking up. She felt wetness stinging her eyes.
"Well you refused me because you didn't want to hurt our friendship, and what we have. You knew we weren't ready, you did it for us. I refused you…for another woman." He couldn't bear to think of the pain he caused her. Remembering the tears running down her face that day, he felt like he couldn't breathe.
"I loved…" she hesitated then corrected herself. "Love. You. And yes, seeing you with another woman was just so painful, it made me feel like you didn't care. We were slowly growing apart as partners, and as friends. I couldn't take it anymore, I was planning on going in and changing partners." She saw deep hurt in his eyes.
"Bones, oh my god. I NEVER meant to make you feel like you did." He scooted closer. "Bones, you are wonderful and beautiful. You did not deserve this, it was all my fault. I was so desperate to find someone to love me after what happened with us. That day in the car. When you said you would be okay alone. That broke my heart. You didn't know how much I wanted to come with you and comfort you. But I knew I couldn't. Hannah was waiting for me. Remember how I said that there's someone for everyone? Well you're my someone and I can't imagine being with anyone else. This is fate, our moment." He cupped her chin with his hand, staring deep in those bright green eyes he had grown to love.
"I don't believe in fate…" She began to say, but really didn't care. All she wanted to do was be with Booth.
"It doesn't matter. We still belong together and nothing can stop that." He gently pressed his lips against hers.
"Yes, yes we do" She said with a smile, knowing that this was the start of something great.
"I love you Bones."
"I love you too."
