Aragorn likened the Elves to stars.
After all, how could he not?
With their shimmering hair that flowed down their backs like waterfalls, perfect skin as pale as moonlight, and the ethereal glow that seemed to follow their every step, every one of their features exemplified pure beauty and grace. As a child, his strong belief was that they were the stars, somehow brought into the form of Elvenkind, brought about great teasing from his older brothers, but even still, he could never shake those feelings.
Elves were fanciful, and always full of a constant light. Their laughter was like silver bells, their attitudes carefree and full of joy. They always found a reason for celebration, honoring the simplest things in life with feasts and songs. They never diminished, their light shining on for eternity. Full of the wisdom of the world and beyond, he admired their vast intelligence and skills. He had come to admire and respect each he had met, all for different reasons he held close to him.
Yet, they all dimmed in comparison to one.
An Elf with fire in his eyes, fierce and dependable in the heat of battle. Proud and fearless, yet warm and caring, and full of humor and endless joy when his friends needed it. Bluntly honest and holding wisdom beyond his years, even for an Elf. Immensely skilled in combat yet still carrying the hands of a healer. A true friend, if there ever was one.
As Estel stared out at the water, the soft snores of the company filling the chilly night air, he detected a flicker of movement from the trees. A lone Elf stood in the branches, pale blue eyes ever watchful as he guarded his sleeping friends from above. Long strands of pure golden hair danced in the breeze, draping over an intricate quiver and trailing down the back of a slender figure. As if sensing Aragon's curious gaze, the Elf turned in his direction, a soft smile gracing his lips. Then he winked as was gone.
'Yes'. Aragorn thought, allowing himself to smile as well, leaning back to rest his head against the rough bark of the tree behind him. His eyes fluttered shut.
If the Elves were the stars, then Legolas was their sun.
