A Fire to Never Be Forgotten

The fire was raging, burning every detail in the camp. This was a fire that would surely be remembered for generations. There never was a fire this big; never a fire that was burning the entire forest. Smoke filled the air rapidly, making it hard to see. Dawnleaf was right in the middle of it.

"We need to get out of here!"

"Come on, this way!"

"I can't see anything!"

"Where am I?!"

"The fire is burning me!"

Dawnleaf heard. All of these voices were yowling around her, but the fire made her become stranded in a circle of fire. She couldn't find a way out; the smoke was too thick.

"What am I going to do?! I'm surely going to…" she gulped. "There's no way out!"

"Dawnleaf, where are you?!" Sunblaze called. He was frantically searching for her, "Dawnleaf! Say something!"

"S-Sunblaze? Is... Is that you?"

"Yes! Where are you at right now?! We need to get out of here!"

"No! Save yourself! I can't get out; the fire and smoke is too strong!"

"There's always a way, Dawnleaf! I'm getting you out!"

Sunblaze jumped around the fire, and every second, another piece of the camp the fire burned into ash. "I'm going to get you out, now! I'm going to need you to jump as hard as you can!" he called once he found where she was.

"I-I… I can't! The fire is too close to me! There's no space to move!" she yowled back. It was true, there was no space. The fire kept rearing nearer and nearer, the hot air was flashing into their faces.

"Just do it! ...For me!" he called back, hope and worry clear in his eyes, but hidden by the smoke.

She jumped, pressing her eyes closed. Everything was slow, and she remembered all the memories they shared together. She, beyond doubt, didn't want to lose those. She was too young to go to StarClan! She landed, but her paws were most definitely exhausted. She fell to the ground, but thankfully there was no fire underneath her. She couldn't move any of her body parts, the smoke burning in her lungs.

"Dawnleaf, you need to keep moving!" Sunblaze yowled with what was left free in his lungs.

"I-I... can't..." She passed out.

Sunblaze was determined to save her. He jumped through the smoke and past the fire, his fur getting inches closer to the fire until he could barely see her. There was a wall of fire getting closer to her. He jumped as hard as he could, and landed a tail length away from her. He ran toward her and picked up her scruff. Sunblaze carried and dragged her as fast as he could away from the fire. Minutes later, after dodging many obstacles of fire, he dragged her out of the camp, near a lake. He dropped her and coughed the smoke in his lungs. Sunblaze's eyes clouded with fear that she was with StarClan.

"Don't die on me!" he cried. He sunk his muzzle into her soft fur. "I need you!"

Her eyes slowly lifted and she coughed, "S-Sunb-blaze?"

He looked up at her. "You're alive! I thought.. I thought you were.."

"But I'm not," she smiled and looked into his eyes, "You saved me."

"I guess I did," he smiled back at her. "Oh, Dawnleaf… I couldn't bear to lose you! I love you so much..."

"And I love you too," she mewed back. She got up weakly and begun to lean on Sunblaze. They padded over to the shallow of the lake and begun washing their burns in the cool water. They completely forgot about what would happen about the camp and how they'd survive without the prey, but that didn't matter as long as they were together.
